- This article in 2sao mentions many things about K-pop artists and K-pop press conference style (in a way that may seem offensive to some K-pop fans). Please understand that I DID NOT WRITE THIS ARTICLE and I translated it merely for the sake of information for my tiny GENE fandom.
- I will have to cut off some parts that are too irrelevant from the main topic. Thank you for your understanding!

GENERATIONS: 7 hotboys that break the "higher than thou" rule at press conference in V-pop
In the recent years, there have been many lives and fan meetings from Korean artists in Vietnam. The strict rules of Korean industry not only apply on their artists, but also on Vietnamese conterparts with many strict terms and conditions in order for them to agree to come here. The most obvious advantage of this industrial style of conducting is that artists' activity is always under control and they can avoid unnecessary conflicts/risks. However, such overly careful manner is sometimes beyond Vietnamese ability to satisfy. On the other hand, the disadvantage of those strict rules is that the Korean artists are always too reluctant to disclose any information, as well as too reserved, tedious with predictive answers, which makes the press conference very boring, information-wise. But it's not just the atmospherein general, many artists also appear with a very unfriendly and unenthusiastic attitude.
In contrast to all of the above, the working style and attitude of Japanese artists (here means GENERATIONS) is really surprising and impressing to Vietnamese press media this time.
Last afternoon (September 18th), the press conf about Japanese famous group GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE coming to Vietnam was held, although invitation letters were sent out just one day ahead. Most media agencies didn't have any information about those seven 9x (meaning "born from 1990-1999") from Japan. However, when the conference was over, they couldn't have imagined that such rush conference could leave a deep impression on everyone who attended it. Those Japanese artists had, from total strangers, become so familiar and intimate, which was completely opposite to those from Korea.
In fact, the starting time of the conference was delayed pretty much, due to GENERATIONS' talk show happening right before the conference. But as soon as they appeared, their immediate apology was like a sincere greeting from both GENERATIONS and the Organizer. Right at that moment, Vietnamese press media realized just how different this one would be from those they had attended before.
It's usual that Korean and Vietnamese agencies are very strict about what reporters can and can not ask artists. However, the friendliness and openess of GENERATIONS indeed evoked Vietnamese press media' interest. Bit by bit, the 'unfamiliar' conference turned into an intimate conversation that beyond everyone's expectation. The story then focused on each individual, their hobbies or bad habits. It's hard to imagine that a conference with so fews media agencies could be so effective, information-wise and emotion-wise.
During the press conference, GENERATIONS showed their sincere hope for the support from Vietnamese press media. The group hoped to receive possitive reviews so that their image and music could come accross to as many audience as possible. Besides, this is their 2nd time performing in Vietnam, and the members said that they were very glad to come back here, as well as feeling so familiar with the city already. The group also wished next time they came to Vietnam, there would be fans greeting them at the airport (T/N: THEN PLEASE TELL US YOUR FLIGHT SCHEDULE!!!).
"I hope after the upcoming event, Vietnamese audiences can feel more in touch with Japanese music and come to love our music. We know K-pop is very popular in Vietnam, as it's in Japan. But we believe we still have our unique colors." - said Alan.
The members also tried their best to learn some simple sentences to interact with Vietnamese reporters such as "We are GENERATIONS" "We come from Japan" "Nice to meet you" (in Vietnamese of course). Shirahama Alan (leader) even surprised all the reporters with his fluent Vietnamese (more info
here).
/I remembered reading an article about them introducing Ryota as Alan (or Ryota introducing himself as Alan) and all the members carefreely bursted out laughing, which surprised everyone in the room... But I can't find it now :(((. Gomen./
Even though the group is still new to Vietnamese media and audience, GENERATIONS had had a good and effective presentation, which covered up the hasty in organization. The seven boys has created a possitive impression.
Some bits about GENERATIONS' members:
- Alan (leader) was born in 1993. He has this habit of touching his face when he's asleep.
- The youngest one, Reo, said that even though he's the youngest (he was born in 1996), the other members hardly gave up anything to him. He confided that he had this habit of observing people.
- Mandy (born in 1991) said that his habit was drawing on toys and walls.
- Ryuto (born in 1992) is the one who always mess up the hotel room because of his untidy habit.
- Hayato (born in 1995) has a habit of scratching his mouth.
- Ryota (born in 1992) admitted that his bad habit was scratching his ankle(s).
- Yuta (born in 1993) said that he couldn't sleep without his body pillow.
