SHEESH.

I'm not one to obsessively use spellcheck or quibble over usage errors (cause, hello, ESL product here!) but sometimes, sometimes, an error gets so common on your flist (by that I mean communities and fic posts) that you get to a breaking point where each time you see it, your blood boils over, and you have to take a stand and shout, "THIS SHALL NOT PASS." Cause seriously?

Definitely =/= Definately

and ALSO:

Definitely =/= Defiantly.

AND IT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED. IT IS A FORCE FOR EEEEBIL.

I mean, JC on a donkey people, if you're going to use inflict all those adverbs on us, learn the difference:

"I definitely want a cupcake," Jack O'Neill said defiantly. "This diet is ass."

"Oh it'll definitely be your ass, O'Neill," said Thor, rolling his giant head on his tiny neck in what was, Jack surmised, an attempt to be sassy. "You know that's where that cupcake is going straight to, umm hmm."

Except it definitely wasn't sassy and Jack was finding Thor's newfound sauciness rather tiresome. As well as Thor's dieting advice. How did he get to be such a little guy, anyway?

"You should definitely cut the carbs and eat more Asgard yellow tofu, O'Neill."

"Hey, I'm not eating that crap," Jack retorted defiantly, eyeing Thor up and down. "I hear it stunts your growth."

"Not to barge in here gentlemen," interrupted General Hammond anyway, "But we definitely need get back to discussing this mission."

Jack turned his head from one bald being to the other. "You can't stop me, General!" he cried defiantly. "I'm definitely taking SG-1 and getting on that Goa'uld mothership no matter what those pencil-pushing bureaucrats say!"

Hammond chuckled softly. "Colonel, since when have I ever not let SG-1 do whatever it wanted?" he asked indulgently. "You definitely have a go."

"Definitely?"

"Definitely. No need to be so defiant."

See? Not so hard. And not a single "defin-a-tely" among them.

Okay El Jay world, if you haven't got it down yet, here's an exercise so you can practice. Fill in the blanks with "definitely" or "defiantly":

Screw the regs! thought Sam _________. I'm_________ going to get it on with my hot CO.

Just then, the object of her lusty thoughts walked into her lab with Daniel in tow. "Carter, is my ass getting big?"

_________. But she said: "Excuse me, Sir?"

"I've been looking at Jack's ass a great deal recently," said Daniel, "And I've come to the conclusion that it's _________ getting larger."

O'Neill looked from his ass to Daniel and then to Sam again. "Is this true, Carter?"

"Yes sir," she said. "Daniel studies your ass every day."

"No, I mean... is my ass getting larger? Answer the question; that's a direct order."

"I refuse!" Sam cried _________. She was waaaay smarter than that.

"So I guess that means my ass *is* _________ getting larger, huh?"

"_________," said Teal'c, joining the impromptu pre-mission briefing. "I mean, 'INDEED'! Your abductor muscles may be in need of conditioning as well," he observed, raised eyebrow and all.

"Nice of you to join us, Teal'c," said O'Neill.

"As I am currently not on Chulak, I had come to the conclusion that I should _________ have a line."

"Stop being sassy," said O'Neill.

Now, my little babies, go out into the world and litter your friendslist with adverbs! The correct ones! I mean, SHEESH.
