Tonight is another one of those sleepless nights. Have to try and finish up flash cards for the rest of my politics stuff and re-do the readings. Why is the midterm Tuesday? Questions I have.
Why tonight's episode of Community was the best for me personally in one scene and one line:

Chang: Wrong.
Jeff: Kristi Yamaguchi?
Chang: Peggy Fleming. Just been proven racist by the racist-prover!

After seeing endless picspams of Parker/Hardison on tumblr due to the combined efforts of elenitahb as well as my going back through some of hjea's entries, I decided to watch Leverage. And oh, what a decision that was!
I love everyone. It's such an odd feeling because usually I end up hating at least one of the characters. No, I love EVERYONE.
I love that it is essentially the Serenity before they picked up Simon, River, and Book, and also minus Kaylee. We've got thieves who are ruined by the fact that now they can't help but want to be the good guys. Parker stole the Hope Diamond and was so bored she put it back!
I love that Nate is the thief daddy. He lost his son, which is what grounds him to take such a paternalistic role in the first place. He's the one who, in their previous lives, used to watch all of them and he's the one who was the most legitimate in terms of being on the side of the law. And I love that he just steps into this position of authority which everyone finds naggy! -- a man being called naggy while Sophie is perfection! Oh, show! -- and the fact that he's not perfect, he's a little dark. He's a functioning alcoholic and he would like to keep it that way.
I love that Sophie is just so stunning. She was the one I took the longest to warm up to, but by that, I mean, like, three episodes. She hooked me when she was talking about how she played Willy Loman as a man when Nate was trying to say something about how she was trying to make a feminist statement. There are definite moments of sideeye -- like when she was playing an Indian woman? wtf. -- but Sophie is just so so perfect. She's classy like Inara but she's also unafraid of stealing and she wants what she wants and she doesn't beat around the bush. She calls Nate out for his shit. She's Thief Mommy. Thief Mommy and Daddy keep each other in line and they're the real bosses of the organization.
And everyone else, I love. Hardison is probably going to get his own paragraph, but Parker. Parkerrrr. I love her backstory. I love that her backstory just explains who she is. I love that she's a thief who's bad at lying! I love that she can't maintain a cover to save her own life. Everyone thinks she's a little crazy but at the end of the day, all she really wants is this family. And she's found it. You can totally see it in the moments when she looks to Sophie to see if she's done something right in terms of trying to be able to act. Parker is precious, but she's also so fucking badass. She throws people off buildings because she doesn't have time for this little thing you have called fear, and she can pick locks like nobody's business, and she can get from one spot to the next where other thieves don't even know how she does it. Woman is stunning.
Eliot mostly just amuses me. Christian Kane is hilarious. The best scene - the best scene is when Hardison gives him something to set off the alarms and he puts it in his pants and then he's told of the possible problems/consequences and he just freaks out. His reactions are so hilarious. SO. HILARIOUS. I just can't even. He's violent and gritty but he ultimately has a heart and he's just so Jayne. But he's over the top where he's still a little believable. IDK. Eliot works best when he's with Hardison.
Hardison! My boy! What haven't I said about him? Man's attractive, man's a nerd, once, he overslept for a heist and everyone wanted to kill him because they had to walk up thirty flights of stairs and it was because he stayed up the entire night before playing WoW. Which is like story of my life except with television. He's my boy. And then he and Parker have this thing and I have a thing for ships and they're an interracial ship and you know my feelings about that and they are essentially a Wash and Zoe type of deal but just so much more like. I don't even know. They have their own little twist on them and they just feel so adorable.
Thief family, I love you all.
Love it so much, contemplating searching for an animated mood theme to replace my 30 Rock one. That's how we know it's serious.
And finally, tonight was the first night of Skating Club. I went because hello, somewhere deep inside of me is a figure skating stan that just wants to be good at figure skating, but it was a joint event with like three frats so there were way too many shenanigans on the ice and I was trying not to fall on my face and I kept praying to Michelle Kwan, patron saint of my figure skating prowess, and things were not going great but you got to crawl before you can walk and so it's one step at a time. We'll get there, we'll get there.
Now I suppose, I actually have to try and get some work done.
But let's be honest, might just watch some more Leverage.
