Just returned from a film shoot up in Burnslake BC, about 15 hours north of Vancouver. I got offered a position as Ass. Camera on a crew put together of humans I respect and enjoy and I really wanted to travel BC so I couldn't pass it up. We shot on a horse ranch owned by the director's Swiss parents who were so polite and amazing! They even make their own cheese and beer and live self-sustaining lives in the middle of nowhere. The film was pretty cool, the budget was about 20,000 and we got to blow up a van. Staying up there in that small, isolated area, the people were really great but I couldn't stop thinking of those banjos from Deliverance or the small town of Twin Peaks (which is a buzzing metropolis compared with this area). Our diet consisted of veggie burgers, granola bars, french toast, pot, beer, scotch, and coffee. I often had all of these things combined in my stomach all at once which made for a really FUN case of gut-rot; so I guess I should add Maalox to the list also.

The stars were amazing up there, and the land was beautiful. I am really glad I was able to go. I hung out with some amazing people and got to know them a lot better than I had in such a short amount of time. We were like a family, and coming from a fractured one it was really comforting, secure. There isn't enough room here in this tiny little box to tell all the stories or relate all the experiences, but in a nut shell--I knew before going that this was going to be one of those times in my life where I would look back from time to time and be REALLY satisfied with what I did, no regrets, and so it was not surprising that this was one of the most memorable times of my life so far. Hope to see you all soon so I can tell you the story about our encounter with red necks and their guns!
