Title: A Peaceful Night
Fandom: DCU
Pairing: Robin III/Zatara
Rating: PG

It was a peaceful night at Titans Tower. To be able to say this was amazing. For once there were no immediate threats, no terrible disasters, no insane crises. Not only that, but everyone had left while Robin was training, off to get food or something like that. It didn’t matter, the point was that the Tower was quiet, empty, peaceful…

Robin took an extra long, nearly scalding-hot shower than pulled on a black t-shirt and a pair of black boxer briefs (They’d all inherited Bruce’s affinity for black.) then went to the common area and stretched out on the couch with his laptop, ready to get his homework done early. Finally he could relax…

Then there was a proximity alert, a minor blip denoting that a fellow Titan was returning to the Tower. There went his night of peace. He waited for the person approaching to reach the common room, a batarang ready just in case, then sat up, looking over the back of the couch to see Zachary Zatara cautiously entering the room.

“Hello?” he said carefully.

“Zatara,” Robin said, making Zatara jump slightly and look at him, “What are you doing here?”

“I uh, came to see Eddie,” Zatara answered awkwardly. Robin stared at him for a moment so Zatara continued, “I heard he was having a rough time so I figured I’d come by, hang out with him a bit…”

“He’s out,” said Robin, turning back to laptop, “They went out for food or something.” He was nervous. What had he been thinking, dressing this way? Sure, no one had been around but now Zatara was here and Zatara…. Zatara was very attractive.

Zatara raised an eyebrow, “Eddie went out to eat?”

“M’Gann went with them,” Robin said, typing away, no longer looking up at Zatara, “She can use her powers to make him look normal.”

“Is it cool if I wait around for him?”

Robin wanted him to go, but nodded mutely. He was the leader and had to do what was best for his team and that meant not being a jerk to Eddie’s friends, especially when the guy really needed a friend.

Zatara moved around to sit on the couch, only then noticing that Robin was out of uniform,

“You’re sitting around in your underwear and your mask?”

Robin glared at the screen, using his training to keep himself from blushing, “No one was here.”
Snorting, Zatara laughed, “I was questioning the mask, not the underwear.”

With a shrug, Robin replied, “I have people to protect. The mask stays on.”

Zatara nodded and sat uncomfortably for a moment, “What are you working on?”

“Homework.”

“What year are you?”

Robin glanced at him, frowning. Why the questions? “I’m a junior.”

“In college?”

“High school.”

Zatara blinked, “Seriously? You seem older. Probably because you act so… mature.”

“You mean boring,” said Robin, “Nightwing says the same thing.”

The awkward silence returned. Robin typed. Zatara fidgeted.

“So what class is your homework for?”

Robin sighed and looked at him, “Chemistry. Have you tried Eddie’s communicator? Or his cell phone? Why didn’t you call him before you came over?”

Shifting awkwardly, Zatara replied, “Well, um, I did.”

Robin’s eye’s narrowed, “Excuse me?”

“I kind of… like you? And uh, I wanted to… yeah, so I talked to Eddie…”

Setting down his laptop on the table, Robin turned to him, “You talked Eddie into getting everyone out of the Tower so that you could get me alone?”

Zatara frowned, “When you say it like that, it sounds creepy.”

Deciding to be bold, Robin leaned over and pressed a kiss to Zatara’s lips, “I guess I’ll have you to thank for my night of peace.”
