Essay #4
Do you have a computer? If you don’t, have you ever used one? If you have used one or do own one have you heard of the Internet? If you have, have you ever searched or browsed the Internet? Have you gone on web sites thinking that all that you have viewed and read on the site was the truth? I know I have numerous times, but it is time that you see and understand that there is false information on the Internet. Technology is changing and improving every minute of the day, especially when it comes to the Internet and computers. When the Internet first became popular it was looked at first to be something necessary to use to communicate with people and something to be trusted. It seems like in the world today that most of the stuff on the Internet is fake and is used to change what people may think, believe, or be in favor of. It is time that we realize this and start teaching kids how wrong and false the Internet can be. If we don’t let them know about the lies on the Internet than there could be unimaginable problems from it. The Internet is so popular especially in the United States but there are other countries that have the Internet and could you imagine that the only way we could only communicate with other countries was through the use of the Internet?
Well I said all that to say this I came across a site that if you know your American history you would know this site is a fake. The big picture it was making was that Martin Luther King Jr. was a liar and that he did the opposite of what he spoke out to public crowds. If someone truly knew their history and what Martin Luther King Jr. was about than they would know that this site was fake and totally biased. I believe that the people who created this website are the KKK. They were just mad and furious that there is no longer slavery and segregation. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of my favorite people to study and learn about in my years in school, he was a role model to me. I myself am an African American and this site probably affected me the worst along with other African Americans. I could not believe what I saw from this site, but then again knowing who created it I was not surprised. I just hope to tell other fellow African Americans about this site, the ones that are young and trying to learn more about their history. It would be terrible and awful if they came across this site without knowing their history and believed it or wrote a paper about it and thinking it was a true and reliable site. I know there are other sites like this where they are biased and try to make people believe that what they say is true and that it is reliable when it is not. I believe we need to take control there are so many websites that get created daily and its tough to know which ones that are true and which ones that aren’t. There could be an African American who could end up acting violently from viewing this site. I wonder why people would take the time to make fake websites I mean of course there will be some people who will believe what they say, but not all will. I hope that this somehow will affect anyone who comes across any website to think and research before they believe what the site is trying to say.
