Summary: Donghae waited his entire life to finally enter the school of his dreams with the scholarship to play hockey that he always wished for.
Donghae had been playing hockey since he was able to walk. It was his favorite sport on or off the ice, but he preferred on. Playing field hockey or roller hockey just didn’t give him the same rush that ice hockey did. He’d been training for this moment ever since.
Donghae could not hold his excitement as he ran inside, acceptance letter in hand.
“Ummaaa! I got in! With a scholarship!” he hollered as he ran about the house searching for his mother.
“What was that dear? I didn’t hear you over the water running…” She responded upon seeing her son.
“I got in! And they want me to play! I got into the school with the best hockey team, AND with a scholarship to play!” He yelled in excitement as he gathered his mother into his arms for a hug.
Donghae had been trying to get into this prestigious high school for the past 3 years. Finally,in his senior,
he was accepted.

Upon arriving at the school, Donghae bid farewell to his mom, but then he didn’t even bother unpacking before he went directly to the rink.
It was the first day of try-outs for the team and Donghae is geared up and ready to play. He knows that he doesn’t have to try out since he’s already automatically on the team, but he wants to check out the rest of the possible players and show off his own skills, of course.
It was a school rule for all sports that seniors who had been on a team for at least 2 years did not have to try out again, they were automatically on the team. Coaches can also personally select students that they want on the team for the next season, so those students do not need to try out either. Donghae was able to easily tell who those members were since they were seated in a group on the bleachers, seemingly watching those on the ice warming up before tryouts. Some were even giving pointers to the individuals trying out for the team. Donghae surveyed the group, his eyes settling on two people who seemed to be mocking some of the students trying out. One was tall with long legs, brown wavy hair, wearing a long-sleeved shirt and jeans. He was pointing to one of the skaters who missed a practice shot, and was laughing to his friend. Donghae eyed the other boy. He looked to be about the same height as himself with short blond hair, wearing a sleeveless shirt showing off his toned arms, and sweatpants. What caught Donghae’s eye was the guy’s smile. It was, simply put, beautiful, consisting mostly of gums. Donghae couldn’t tear his eyes away, until someone knocked into him.
“Whoahh, watch out man. And if you’re here to try out you better start warming up.”
Donghae looked up to see a very tall guy with jet-black hair and a dimpled smile, moving towards the ice rink. He nodded and then proceeded to skate a few times around the rink as his warm up, until he heard a whistle blow.
“Gather round!”
Donghae looked to see a large muscled guy holding the whistle, standing by the goal with an air of authority.
“My name is Kim Youngwoon and I am the coach of this hockey team. Feel free to call me Kangin. This here is Choi Siwon, senior and captain of the team.” Donghae saw him motion towards the dimpled guy from before.
“Over there” he continued, pointing towards the group on the bleachers, “are some of the starters, or top players, from the team. You may want to look to them for some advice or pointers over these next few days, I’ll leave it to Siwon here to introduce them.” He motioned towards Siwon to take over.
“Hey everyone! First, I’d like to say thank you for wanting to try out for the hockey team. I’m excited to see what you all have to offer. Okay, now let me introduce those guys over there…At the end on the left is Shindong, he’s a senior and he’s the best goalie we have. And no, it’s not because of his size, his reflexes are unbelievably quick. Also he’ll be working the net during today’s tryouts; next to him is Hankyung, another senior. He was recruited from China so his Korean isn’t very good, or so he says, but he can hold conversations fairly well so no need to worry; then we have Yesung. He’s also a senior and a quiet guy for the most part. He’ll sometimes give amazing pointers so don’t be afraid to ask him; Ryeowook is the tiny guy next to Yesung, he’s a junior. He may not look tough, but wait until you see how quick he is on the ice, he can steal the puck from you in the blink of an eye; on his right is Kyuhyun, another junior and our snarky magnae. He’s got a sharp tongue and tends to insult anyone and everyone, but don’t take too much offense from anything he might say to you; and the blond one is Hyukj-“ Donghae noticed the blond widen his eyes with a scowl on his face in a warning way before Siwon continued, “that’s Eunhyuk.” Donghae picked up on the quick change and questioned it for a moment, but put his thoughts aside when Kangin wanted each of them to introduce themselves and then skate around with the puck to try to make a goal past Shindong. He realized that he’d missed Eunhyuk’s entire introduction.
Donghae took a seat on the bleachers with everyone else as they waited for their turn. He watched as the guys before him took their shots, ‘Not bad…but I’m better’ he cockily thought to himself.
“You with the fish sticker on your helmet! You’re up, tell us your name and then start skating.” Siwon ordered.
“Lee Donghae.” He stated before stepping off the bleachers onto the rink.
“Hold on there” Kangin stopped him. Donghae looked at him with a questioning face.
“Did you say ‘Lee Donghae’?”
“Uh…yeah.” He responded with a raise of his eyebrow.
“What are you doing here at tryouts? You’re already on the team.” There was a collective gasp from the others trying out, anticipating Donghae’s answer.
“Uhm…I don’t know…” he intelligently responded.
Before Kangin could even respond, someone else spoke.
“I wanna see what he can do, since he’s our scholarship student.” Donghae heard, whom he believed to be Eunhyuk, shouting from the bleachers, along with a chorus of “Yeahs!” and other cheers.
“Alright, alright, get on out there. But, let’s make this interesting. Siwon!” Kangin addressed the captain, “since you’re geared up, go out and do a one-on-one. First to 3 points wins.” He stated with a smile on his face.
Donghae didn’t expect to be in a one-on-one competition so soon. He was slightly nervous, but the adrenaline he felt overtook that anxiousness.
The game began and Siwon easily scores first. Donghae heard a bunch of ‘Boo’s’ directed towards him. Wanting to prove himself worthy, he quickly skates past Siwon and scores two goals in a row. Not wanting to lose either, Siwon blocks and steals the puck before Donghae can get a third goal. He succeeds in stealing the puck and then almost misses his chance to score again, but makes it. The score is 2-2 and neither of them will lose without a fight. The puck was with Siwon, and he was not letting it be taken away easily. He was skating down the rink with Donghae’s open net as the only thing in his sight. Out of nowhere Donghae comes from the side and steals back the puck. Before Siwon could register what happened Donghae sped towards Siwon’s goal and scored. No sounds were heard. No one on their team had beaten Siwon in a one-on-one battle before, and all those who are considered the best have tried, that’s why he was chosen to be the captain.
Siwon is the first to start clapping. Then Kangin joined in. Gradually the rest also did. Everyone except for the small group on the bleachers.

I know I’ve been MIA for a while now, but school and real life have been stressful…Anyways, I’ve had this story in progress for over a year while now and finally finished the first part! \o/ Not sure how long it’ll be, but probably not too long. I don’t play hockey so sorry for the lame attempt at my description of their one-on-one game.
I know many of you are waiting for an update on IWBB, but that’s taking longer than I expected. Plus I have a ton of schoolwork, papers and projects coming up so I’m sorry, but don’t expect an update anytime soon :/ Thank you to those who’ve been waiting patiently for my stories! And I hope you like this new one :3
