Australia!

Just a quick post to say that I'm in Australia now, woo! I didn't get to bed until about 4.30am (combination of late flight + long immigration line + long wait for baggage) and then my body woke up by itself at about 9am, so I figured I may as well roll with that and will see if I feel the need for a nap or early night later. I think my body clock is so messed up right now that it's less an issue of combating jet lag and more of getting my basic needs seen to!

Observations about Australia thus far:
1) the heat. It was (according to the pilot) 23 degrees when I landed in Perth, and I found that pleasantly warm. That was at 2.30am. It's hotter now, and just teetering on the edge of 'uncomfortable' for me. I am not going to cope well with anything above mid-30s!
2) there are lots of chirping insects at night
3) taxi drivers here don't really seem to do 'banter', or maybe that was just the guy that I got. I spent a lot of the taxi journey to my friend's house staring out of the open window and mentally categorising everything as either 'crazy Australian stuff' (sprinklers at the roadside! Weird traffic light road signs! Palm trees!) or 'stuff that looks identical to stuff in Britain' (other road signs!)
4) DUDE THIS PLACE IS BEAUTIFUL

On the agenda today:
1) be warm
2) eat something
3) be warm
4) go for a short walk, probably become too warm
5) wish I owned a swimming costume already

Saffy's Fact for the Day:
12-hour flights are DULL. Ye gods. My body tried to entertain me by occasionally giving me travel sickness, but that didn't really help.
