There is an art to running a city constructed in the shadow of an evil mountain.  Your city must feel safe enough that people will want to live there, but you must also preserve enough of the mountain's aura of menace to draw in the wandering heroes and enterprising adventurers who bring in the majority of your income.   Because, make no mistake, ( Read more... )

This was a pure delight. You're turning into one of my top contenders for the end and that's a problem since I want to be in that running myself - LOL.

This is amazing, and this bit in particular made me giggle because it’s so true: Also, it would squeak, because a chew toy that doesn’t squeak is just sad

I just love you so much. I want to read volumes upon volumes of your work, and I mean that with all honesty. You always manage to strike just the right balance between making me laugh and actually telling a decent story. I think that my favorite part of this is that it's just a foregone conclusion that if you get too greedy, a swamp monster will drag you off and eat you.

I'm playing Skyrim now, and this certainly reminded me of a town in that game, full of people just ready to give quests to anyone who stops by. "Oh, you're a random person, you'll go into this crypt that's full of the zombies of my forefathers and grab that ring I lost, right?"

Thanks so much - maybe someday I'll have volumes and volumes.

I do try very hard to come up with something funny, which is harder some weeks than others. In some ways, I'm sure people will be very understanding if I post a sad one sometime, but I still kinda worry it would be disappointing? I don't know, it's complicated.

But yes, greed inevitably leads to being eaten by monsters. = )

I totally get that about being funny. Humor is, in my opinion, harder to do consistently well, because you really have to be in the right mindset for it to work at all. Add into that the idea of being in a competition where your audience is voting for how much they like your work and that can make it even harder, when you feel like you're "known" for something.

Don't be afraid to take risks, though! Some of my most well-received entries in Idol have been when I stepped out of my comfort zone. You're a good enough storyteller that I'm confident you could make something more serious work just as well. :)
