This is my entry for the writing activity on the brigits_flame community. Once again, I have gone insane and decided to keep up a continuous narrative for the month for as long as I'm in the competition. You don't need to read part 1 for this to make sense, but if you want the whole story then you should start with Read more... )

I like these fellows more than I liked Carver and Butler. This is hilarious.

Nicely done... another constant is academic competition, I suppose.

My first thought for the theme was the eternal rivalry between the colleges. I wasn't sure that was strong enough to fit the theme, and so the towering ego of Professor Teiger was born. = ) Glad you picked up on the original idea, though.

carnivorous animals and carnivorous things that may or may not be animals.... XD!!!! mermaidbia September 19 2008, 02:10:19 UTC
YAY!!!!!
The moment I glanced over this piece and saw it littered with these familiar names I literally JUMPED in my seat and clapped like a little girl. Oh you little genius, you.

You've got at least one passionate fan of this ongoing story, here. *points to herself* I love this so much. It's sophisticated, intelligent and exact writing, SO - FUCKING - HILARIOUS and matter-of-fact, so engaging and confident, such lovable characters and their odd little spleens (THE TEA. THE TEA. XD) such a love for the words themselves...It's truly outstanding, utterly hilarious work. I shall be very disappointed INDEED if you do not continue this in the next prompts, sir.

"the name dripping with all of the venom usually reserved for words like "aphids" or "botrytis cinerea fungal infestation."
I love you. Seriously.

On another note - have you ever read Robert Charles Wilson's Darwinia? It's got a similar plot, only it's more of a thriller/drama than a comedy.

Aw, thanks, I'm glad to hear that you were so happy to see episode 2, and that you enjoyed it so much. It totally made my day to know that someone out there appreciated the aphids/fungul infestation joke. I was so proud of that one, but wasn't sure how it would go over with actual readers.

I haven't read Darwinia, but from a quick look at the description on Amazon it certainly sounds interesting. I just checked the catalog for my local library and it's sitting on the shelf as we speak, so I'll be sure to pick it up and give it a try...though maybe I should wait until the end of the month so I don't accidentally draw on it for my story. = ) Thanks for letting me know about it!

ROFL, this is hilarious! It reminds me of Doglas Adams' brilliant writing.

"The first answered "The Isle of Doom." The second answered "Monster Island." The third and final survivor answered "My God, They Were Everywhere," but since he did nothing but stare into the distance and mutter these words in response to any question asked of him, the general opinion was that his answer didn't count."

"As big as their vehicle is, though, I think it must still be quite crowded inside with eight men and Teiger's ego."

Awesome!!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Definitely a fan of Douglas Adams as well. He, Terry Pratchett, and Susanna Clarke are probably the strongest influences on my preferred style.
