Wilson knocked on House's apartment door for the third time that week. He had been seeing House more and more lately, and Cuddy was getting suspicious.
“Come in!” called House, “it’s open!” He sounded slightly tipsy.
Good, thought Wilson, he’s easier to talk to when he’s like that.
Wilson pushed the door open and he stepped over the threshold. There were bottles and pizza boxes strewn everywhere.
“House?” He called, kicking aside a pizza box. “Where are you?”
“In here!” House called back. The sound echoed, so Wilson figured he must be in the bathroom. Wilson followed the sound of House’s voice. He knocked when he reached the bathroom door. House threw it open.
“Why do you always have to be so goddamn polite? Eh?” He said, his face splitting into a wide grin. He put Wilson in a headlock and gave him a noogie.
“Alright, alright!” Wilson said, tickling House under the arms until he relented.
“What’s wrong?” Asked Wilson, as he and House went into the living room.
“What do you mean ‘what’s wrong?’” asked House sitting on the couch.
“You’re leaning on your cane more than usual,” said Wilson, putting his hands on his hips and giving House a sideways look. "Is it your leg?" Wilson asked gently.
"Yes, but what's new?" said House, patting the place next to him on the couch. "Make yourself at home." Wilson sat next to him, he placed his head on House's shoulder and closed his eyes. House put his arm around Wilson and planted a kiss on his forehead.
"I think..." said Wilson quietly.
"Keep going..." said House paitently.
"Cuddy's onto us..." said Wilson, opening his eyes and turning to look at House.
"Impossible..." said House, planting a kiss on Wilson’s lips. Wilson kissed him back passionately, hungrily; as if they had never kissed before. They broke apart, as there was a knock on the door.
“House?” called the person at the door, “are you in there?”
“Shit” said House, “it’s Cuddy.”
Wilson got up and went to the door.
“I love you,” he mouthed, as he opened the door. Sure enough, there stood Cuddy, with a face like thunder.
"Wilson, what are you doing here?" she seemed surprised to see him.
"I could ask you the very same," he retaliated.
Cuddy lost it, and slapped Wilson across the face.
House limped over to them. "Cuddy, how dare you! Your fight doesn't involve him!"
"It'll involve whoever I choose to involve," she said sharply, rounding on House.
"Hey, all I want you to do, is lay off my best friend," House said in a reasonable tone.
"He's more than just your best friend, House... Oh, yeah... Chase has a big mouth," She said.
"Yes... but how did Chase find out?" Wilson asked, gingerly touching the side of his face where Cuddy had slapped him.
"Ha! So you don't deny it!" she said, triumphantly.
"Of course we don't!" House and Wilson said in unison.
"House, mind if we have a word? Alone," asked Cuddy, saying the last word slowly and clearly.
"I supose so..." House said, "Wilson...?"
"Yeah...?"
You know the drill..."
Wilson smiled meekly at House and went into the bedroom, closing the door behind him.
"So, what's up?" House asked, as soon as Wilson had gone.
"I want you to break up with Wilson..." Cuddy said, bluntly.
"Errr... Why?" House asked.
"Because... because... I like him... and Cameron likes you," she said, quietly.
"That's not all, is it?" House said.
"No, it's not..." Cuddy said. "I'm forty-two, I've liked Wilson for two-and-a-half years... I'm single... and now I find out he's gay... I have nothing against gays... it's just such a blow. Because... well... I thought he liked me..."
"I can't change that..." House said.
"Being with Wilson has changed you, House..." Cuddy said. "You're no longer the bitter, angry doctor I hired four years ago... You're sweeter, and more caring. And I know that, if you break it off with him, you won't stay that way. You guys are the exact opposite. And yet, underneath it all, you both have so much love to give."
"That's why I'm with him," said a voice behind them.
"James..." said House, using Wilson's first name instead of his last. "How long have you been standing there?"
"Long enough," he said. Wilson turned to face Cuddy. "I'm sorry, Cuddy... it would have never worked out between us..."
She smiled, and bade them goodnight. But they could see the tears in her eyes as she left the apartment.
The End
