Not a good night for meteors

The Perseid meteor shower is tonight, and the moon rises late and is only a sliver anyway. But unfortunately, there is a bit of a haze tonight. It not only mutes the light of the meteors themselves, it reflects back a significant amount of the city lights nearby. The one-per-minute average assumes (A) very dark skies, and (B) that you can look in all directions at once.

It's more like one every four or five minutes in my actual experience, if you have good viewing conditions.

I eventually stayed out long enough to spot 7 meteors, but overall it was still a disappointment. I'll also take a look out tonight, but the weather will probably be much the same.
