I thought I got the CW, but as it turns out I don't so I had to watch it on their website again. (Ah, Improv-a-Ganza "nostalgia".) So, y'know, I was spared all that hashtag business. Sounds annoying, though. Almost like trying to watch something on FOX.

I hate to break it to you, too, but at least a few of the tapings had two special guests present - they've already announced a future Heather Anne Campbell episode special-guest-starring Lisa Leslie, who played in the WNBA and won four gold medals as part of the US Olympic female basketball team. (As ignorant as I am, I didn't even know Olympic basketball was a thing!) Because why should any improv show Heather's on ever let her do anything? But on the potentially bright side, I think they've only announced nine special guests so far, so we might get a few bonus guest-less episodes at the end of the season. Or probably not.

One of Taylor's friends who was apparently at the first episode's taping claims (emphasis because at one point people who had seen live shows kept espousing the many virtues of Kathy Kinney, and.....we know how that actually turned out) that Gary Anthony Williams was actually a really clever guy who made great jokes on a variety of topics, and he's frankly baffled that they cut it all down to just the disgustingly-eating-food jokes. I thought this was important to mention myself, as someone who thought Gary seemed like a nice guy with a pleasant rapport with everybody but could you stop making me hate my favorite foodstuffs please when I saw this episode.

Clearly, Song Styles is Song Style now because they realized they stopped using more than one style per playing, like, 23 years ago. But maybe it would be fun to see them play Song Styles in the, ahem, style of Film (TV) & Theater Styles. This would be fun and challenging for Wayne, who would have to adapt to new styles on the fly, and this would also be fun and challenging for Laura Hall, who would have to do her best to change between pre-recorded ditties on the beat so the transition doesn't seem too awkward.

Since you mentioned the light in Sideways Scene, I have to mention that I liked the way it appeared to just.....fly off into the stratosphere as a result of Heather merely touching it. Do they really not have these silhouettes affixed to the Big Red Gym Mat at all?

Well, this is really rambly for a comment, especially considering that I have already made my thoughts on the episode available......elsewhere. But I'd say that while this is not quite Whose Line, the mere act of calling it Whose Line seems to energize the performers in a way that being on improv shows with other names clearly does not. Know what I mean? Colin was never this consistently "on" on Trust Us, that's for sure. I have some fairly large misgivings about the first two episodes, but the second was a noticeable improvement on the first and I really hope this lasts long enough for me to really see where it goes - as long as Aisha doesn't end up jerking it in a movie theater or anything.

Re: Song Styles:
Weren't they doing double Song Styles up until the ABC end, in the sense that Song Styles was played twice with two different styles at each taping it was played? Granted it was never twice in the same episode and about two different subjects, but...

But who's to say they're not playing Song Style twice at these tapings too? There's only so many games you can play with famous-but-none-too-charismatic people!

Also: The CW's latest episode preview - available online! - implies that Gary Anthony Williams actually WAS forced to play Sideways Scene, and it might even get to air!

But...your original comment was about it being called Song Style now because of only one style being used! Unless you're saying that no, singing to a meter maid then to a video game review in the same taping but in different episodes doesn't count as the same playing?

You know which WL alum I'd like to see play Sideways Scene? Lassie.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. At one point, Song Styles was played twice at a taping with the intention of airing them both, but now they're each intended to be separate games in separate episodes with just one style each. They also do (at least) two Credit Readings at each New Whose Line taping; do those count as one big playing with two different styles to you too?

I think we may be going in circles.

Really I'm not sure if I would count two people singing two different songs (albeit on the same topic) one after the other in the same episode as one playing, either. Mostly because those two songs could be separated into different episodes if need be.
I never interpreted the plural of "Song Styles" to refer to just the two styles used in each episode, but to the various possible styles used over the course of more than one episode.
Maybe to clear up any confusion they should've originally called it something more straight-forward, like "One-Headed Singer."
