I need your HELP! (for a documentary)

Mar 11, 2010 13:29

I am a Communications, Mass Media and Theatre major, and I have a lot of friends who cosplay (usually I am the photographer for the photoshoots - who else can juggle four cameras at once?). I have been formulating an idea on a cosplay documentary for a while and figured what better time to start it than now?

I am using technology to help me. I cannot afford to attend many conventions, and even then, some conventions can get a bit crazy and things happen, audio is bad, etc. I would love for all the people who do cosplay to either record with their webcams or digital cameras or take video of it, their thoughts on cosplaying. If you do video, you can take us for a tour of your costumes, or record yourself getting dressed so it can be seen what goes into preparation. If you want to video updates as you build your props, I would be interested in that as well.

Some questions/thoughts to keep in your mind while you record your statement:
* Why do you cosplay?
* Why do you cosplay the characters you do? What is it about those characters you wish to emulate?
* When you cosplay, does your attitude change?
* How much money, blood, sweat and tears has gone into cosplaying?
* Does cosplaying affect the types of friends you have?
* What does your family think of your cosplaying?
* What is your best cosplay ever? Why? What makes it the best?
* What was the worst cosplay you ever did? Why was it the worst?
* Do you become the character you portray or just wear the costume? Why is that?
* How do you store your costumes?
* Any little tricks you have found that work for creating characters?
* What goes into choosing either an anime/comic book/video game character compared to a live action character? (for example: Rukia versus Doctor Who)

Videos can be emailed to carole926@gmail.com. Questions can be posted here, or can be emailed or PMed to me. I will be working on this over the next several months, and will even try to get some people in person. The only things I am committed to so far this year are the Whoniverse Photoshoot: Part Deux, ACen, and Chicago TARDIS. I might also be at Wizard World and C2E2 but that remains to be seen.

I look forward to this, and want to represent as many cosplayers as possible. This documentary will then be available for viewing at other conventions and other places as decided. And will be available online at some point. Thank you in advance for the help!
