Something That Bugged Me About Last Week's Episode of Glee (3.08)

This is something I've been meaning to post for the last couple days, but while I was watching last week's episode of Glee (3.08, Hold On To Sixteen), there was something that was said about the Puck/Shelby relationship that was inaccurate from the perspective of criminal law, and as a practicing attorney, that is something that I cannot let go ( Read more... )

Kind of figured that you wouldn't have been a fan of the Puck/Shelby SL. When I heard that Shelby was coming back, I thought that it'd lead to a big SL for Rachel, as they tried to come to terms with being around each other again & work out some sort of relationship, as well as Puck & Quinn having to deal with Beth suddenly being around again. But no, there was hardly anything with Shelby/Rachel, while Beth & Quinn coming apart were both used to prop that embarassment of a plotline that pretty much ruined Shelby's character. Such a waste of Idina & the potential decent SLs Shelby's return could have driven, but then again, expecting anything good from RIB these days is too much.

There's a few therapist/client fics like that, & they aren't my favorite either because of those pitfalls (I think I've only come across one where the therapist character realizes that they've crossed a big line & hands in their license), & then I've seen a couple fics that are double whammies in that they have Emma getting romantically involved with a student she's seeing as a counselor....

Although I get a chuckle out of disclaimers like that, there is a good reason, as in addition to the ethical issues, depending on how it goes down, that kind of relationship can be a Class-A Felony here in WA (a therapist or other medical/mental health professional obtaining sex from a patient during an appointment, unless they can show the patient was aware that it wasn't part of the treatment at the time is one of the ways to commit second-degree rape.) At least I haven't come across anything involving an inappropriate attorney-client relationship among Glee fanfics....
