The St. Petersburg Times has done a really interesting look at the reasons why some high-ranking members of the Church of Scientology have flown the coop recently, and it's sparked yet another bout of me reading everything I can get my hands on about the group.

A real nagging issue with Scientology is that it's often maddeningly difficult to pin down what Scientologists actually believe. We all know that the rumor is if you spend a bazillion dollars and take a ton of Scientology courses for thirty five years, they'll finally spring the "we were brought to this world by aliens!" bit, but obviously that's now how they get you in the door. So what is it then? I finally found it! This is clearly produced by the organization, but I suppose it does a pretty good job of explaining how they get you to fork over money without seeming crazy. Enjoy!
