While I read Jezebel pretty much daily, I do think the site has a lot of problems. However! Linda Hirshman's insanely misleading and irresponsible column about Jezebel makes her look like a crazy dinosaur. Maybe it's stuff like this that explains why people hate feminists?

I am not familiar enough with Jezebel to comment either way. Took one look at the website and it looked rather uninteresting :p

That being said, feminism - to me - seems like such an outmoded concept. I always took it to entail a effort to promote equality between women and men. If that is still the case, count me in as a feminist. But why not - then - just call it that?

Unfortunately my feeling regarding feminism is that it too often - when discussing the topic of sexual liberty - focuses on bringing down women to the same low level as the womanizing scum that some men are, rather than holding those same men accountable for their poor behavior.

Likewise the entire discipline seems to surround creating controversy where there really is none.

For instance, I saw a photo of a "piece of art" on Flickr that depicted a wall of vaginas. I found it rather repugnant, and commented as such to which the response from the feminist contingent was that I was "afraid of female sexuality and sexual freedom". My response was that I would be equally repelled by looking at a wall of male genitalia.

Another example is the rather semantic focus on switching the focus from the completely clear "no means no" to the message of "consent". Completely ridiculous.

While I am not well read up on the concept currently called feminism (which seems to have departed from its roots of promoting gender equality) I can't help but find it somewhat loony, especially considering the almost fanatic behavior of its biggest proponents. They remind me far too much of members of crazy fanatical religious groups in their complete inability to attempt to engage in civil discussions on the topic, instead insisting that anyone who don't agree with them are sexist pigs.

With that I am done on the topic.
