Everyone say hello to the jerk.... (that's me)

Mar 29, 2012 16:37

Some of y'all already know how famous (or infamous) I've inadvertently become in some communities.

It all started last summer over two simple posts.

The start of it all )

Some would say that the ability to have insight into this says you are human and not an asshole.

Others would say that having such insight and still acting that way means you are an even greater asshole.

Personally I think some of them take it too far. These same PC police are not exactly friends of mine and frankly I get sick of being policed on LJ too (to the point of possibly leaving a platform I've had for many years). Yes you are an arse at times, aren't we all? Isn't being human being fallible?

I'm really sick of the policing of the LJ comms. If you really want some flame war goodness join the parenting, breastfeeding and pregnancy comms. OMG the snark is knifeworthy.

Normally I pace myself well and I actually don't care what word police think of me. I don't care if I offend hypersensitive ninnies. However in this case I got caught up in the "HAR HAR HAR U KAN'T WERD POLISE ME" thing and was a jerk to someone who really did not deserve it.

Prime example of people who take it too far? When they jump all over you for being "ableist" for saying that something is "lame". -_-

Seriously? Who even thinks of a disabled person when referring to a poorly constructed argument?

Ugh.. I hate flame wars over parenting issues... so goofy.

Though I may take a peek just to satiate morbid curiosity.

In the time since then I've had a lot of thinking about laws that restrict personal liberty and I admit that when I return to the States I may rethink the scope of it but I certainly would like to at the very least generate an awareness campaign among restaurants and bars and such.

The hive-minders that swarmed into that post claim that you don't have the right to ask somoene if they are pregnant unless they are in the process of giving birth. Well, that's a load of horse crap.

sf_drama? no... I only wandered in there once a few months ago when someone PMed me that I should check it out.

Honestly I feel sorry for those folks that they have nothing better to do in life than sit around and feel better than everyone else and pick people apart in a false sense of superiority. It's sad really.

I don't have time to mess with stuff like that, you know it takes days before I can respond to emails. XD

I'm sorry about the comment screening issue earlier.. I hit a wrong button or something, comments are completely open now... or at least they oughta be.

I remember all of these. Too lazy to read through the first two things but I *think* that even I was harping on you.

But what I've learned about that stupid community is that they love to be the word police. They want you to say everything perfectly and make absolutely clear what you're saying, and if you accidentally say something that could even slightly be twisted, someone will find it and will twist it.

I laughed my ass off at the Pizza Slut bit. I also laughed my ass off in another thread where some girl failed to read the entry properly, harassed the OP, then when called on it said 'I have a learning disability that prevents me from reading properly leave me alone!'

And I laughed my ass off at that too. These people are too much. I am an asshole, I draw the line at mocking people for something that's not their fault, but what the fuck these people are looking for their own faults and using them as excuses. STOP USING YOUR FAULTS AS EXCUSES. IT DOES NOT ALWAYS EXCUSE YOU.

It drives me bonkers when people take super offense to things. Calling someone fat or a slut has their places, I'm sure. But look, a fat person is fat, "don't call me fat, you asshole!" Then if I'm insulting you, what insult would you prefer? because you are fat, it's a descriptive word, it describes what you are. Taking offense to it is what puts the offense in it in the first place ( ... )

Was this on Jezebel? It sounds like something that would start on Jezebel, but from context it sounds like it happened over here on LJ ( ... )

It was on a couple of customer service related communities here on LJ.

See, and the issue definitely doesn't stop with women. I understand that society puts women under a magnifying glass in this issue but I am not society; I'm looking at men equally.

A-shirts are meant to be worn UNDER clothes, they are not outerwear and don't count as a proper shirt.

If your shorts are so short or pants are so tight that I know the size of "the family jewels" then you need looser or longer clothes.

I cannot stand seeing a guy with his gut hanging out of his shirt. It's gross. I'm a big guy, to be sure, but there ARE clothes that fit, even at the thrift shop!

It's about decorum, self-respect and respect for others and has nothing to do with "body policing"
