One week, $220 in doctor and pharmacy bills later...

I am feeling much better. Must of you didn't have to deal with me during the day, so it's hard to describe how I was, but just know that I will be back to my old self - depressed and self-loathing - instead of the monster I have been - depressed and anxious - this past week.

Move to Canada, the doctor would have been free! anonymous January 11 2006, 04:05:20 UTC
$220, that's rough. Mine are $130, but we pay about $30 due to Noel's insurance through the school. Thank god, I put off dealing with my depression and anxiety mainly due to the cost until I had one, very, very bad day. At which point we had to make some big sacrafices until I could get on Noel's plan.

I couldn't agree more with your Jan. 03 post. Even if you want to look at this from a cost standpoint (which I loathe to do as it reduces citizens to customers and lives to a dollar amount) the time that a person suffering from anxiety, depression or more severe disorders such as schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder spends in the psychiatric ward on 24-hour suicide watch far out weighs what that person would "cost" in terms of medication for that same period of time.

When my brother was hospitalized for 3 months, the cost (picked up by the Government of Ontario thanks to Universal Health Care) was in the hundreds of thousands. Now, if we had universal pharmacare when he started to hear the voices he could have seen the doctor and been given a prescription and had it filled, as opposed to going to the doctor, being given the prescription, not having any money to have it filled and trying to medicate himself with whatever he could find, thus finding him in the psych. ward and costing the above mentioned hundreds of thousands.

Then there's the argument that once your immediate needs to life, liberty and personal safety are met that your health is a birth right -- an entitlement undeniable, as opposed to a privilege at the discretion of your employer.

But that's just a rant from a centre of the road Canadian.

You should meet some of OUR whacko Liberals! Whew! They put Michael Moore to shame.
