Hello everyone, see I can get the prompt up in time. Twelve minutes before midnight is on time, right? Well, considering everything that conspired today to try and get me to not post, I'll take it as a win.
Okay, so, this month we got the next part of
celadon_55's great response to the July '09 prompts (Don, firework, park) (
Carousel).
Alas, that was all on the challenge response front, though we got some terrific fics elsewhere. But now for the new prompts:
Clue Challenge #8: February 2010
Who: Don
What: ice
Where: outdoors
Okay, so the weather and news here has definitely inspired this month's word prompt choices. What with all the black ice and all of the consequences thereof here in merry old England. Seriously, they had to shut down part of the motorway as people kept having accidents driving 30 mph!
Which, naturally, makes me wonder what could befall our favorite FBI agent in similar circumstances?
:D
Show us Don in active pursuit of a fleeing suspect when he slips and falls on a patch of ice (which could, of course, give the baddy the perfect opportunity to disarm him and make the hunter the captive). Just a thought.
Maybe what happens to Don isn't the result of malicious intent, but rather a simple, everyday accident. If there is ice on the road, especially if it's black ice, then a lot of Angelinos wouldn't be used to driving in it and do many a stupid thing. Don could be the accidental victim of an out-of-control car ending up on the sidewalk or off of the pavement altogether.
Or show us little!Don and his first time experiencing ice. LA and Pasadena probably don't get as much of it, so he could well have been a bit older before he first got the chance to experience it for himself. Maybe Charlie is present as well and Donny is trying to help his little brother when something happens?
What would happen if Don had to go out onto a barely frozen pond to rescue a child unable or too afraid to move? Especially if his weight turns out to be too much for the thin ice and gives way beneath him?
Perhaps the ice isn't due to the weather at all, but rather something a bad guy uses to his advantage? A fleeing suspect might throw over an ice cream cart in a desperate attempt to trip up his pursuers. A large bag of ice would also make a handy weapon if nothing else is on hand.
