Windows 8 and Sims 2

Ok I'm going to post this here because I keep seeing people saying that they can't get windows 8 and sims 2 to play nicely together. For some reason the lovely people at microsoft have an issue with the Sims 2 update installer. Base game will play fine, but anything after that will run into updating problems and uninstall itself.

Ok my laptop broke about 5 months ago and when I finally got a new one all they had was windows 8....Great.
Now I had to get a hard drive thing to convert my hard drive from my old laptop into an external hard drive. I managed to get my save games off it, but Sims 2 still wouldn't run.

Instead what I had to do was install a virtual machine onto my new laptop. I managed to install the game, but the graphics were not so good and what is the point of having a lovely shiny new laptop if your game still looks like turd.

I installed all the games except apartment life onto the virtual machine.
Then I copied them onto my windows 8 desktop. This tricks the laptop into thinking that the games are all updated.
Then I installed apartment life. When it checked that the games were up to date it believed they were.
After running the game and exiting without playing, I then installed eps University and up.
The computer believes it is still up to date and will install everything correctly.
I suggest starting the game to check everything is working nicely before copying your back up EA folder into your new one.
Ta Da done!
If your old laptop with w7 or xp (or vista) is still working you will not have to go to the trouble of installing a virtual machine. You can copy the reinstalled, clean games straight over using an external hard drive or something.
I know it seems a pain, but it's not that hard to do. I've reinstalled all my downloads folder and my saved games and everything is working perfectly. SimPE and Bodyshop have no problems either.

If you do run into trouble please pm me and I will attempt to help. :)

PS I have recently found a bit of trouble with SimPE. Basically the NVidaia DDS Tools don't install on Windows 8. Again just install this onto your VM or seperate computer and copy the PROGRAM files over. In SimPE go into Options/Preferences/File Table. You can browse for the tools there and add them to SimPE. If you are a creator you will need these as it allows you to recolour and clone objects in Object Workshop :)
