No, scratch that, life is FANTASTIC.
I mentioned before that I got the private chef job, and that is going incredibly well. Amazing, in fact. I don't even remember the last time I had a job where I practically leapt out of bed out of excitement to get there in the morning. I literally love EVERYTHING about where I work.
The photo studio is such a cool place to be in general, I would have taken a job here cleaning bathrooms if it meant getting to come here everyday and bullshit with the nicest, most fun and cool people I've ever had the pleasure to work with, and the studio itself is a really neat space.
It looks small, but it's SO not. It's just impossible to cram all the crazy rooms in this maze into one photograph.
And the best part? Here is my office in this wonderful place (don't mind the mess, I was in the middle of cooking :-D)
And it's ALL MINE. I don't have to share it with anyone, it's MY menu, MY food, no one is standing over my shoulder or "not letting me" do something, there's no micromanaging, no numbers I have to hit, no phones I have to answer. It's just me and playing with food. Best. Job. Ever. :-)
The people who work there are so, SO nice and helpful and sweet and FUN! They are all so complimentary of my cooking, and always peeking their heads in and asking me if I need anything or if there's something they can do. It's like having one of my dinner parties everyday. :-)
On Friday, the one girl Clarissa busted out this old school milkshake machine and made everyone milkshakes with Mitchell's ice cream. I had the salted caramel. OMG so good.
In other news, I leave for Scotland in a MONTH! AHHHHHH!!!!
I can't believe it crept up on us that fast! I've been confirming reservations and booking excursions and just DOING ALL THE THINGS. I'm so excited! A month from TODAY I'm going to be taking my very first international trip (Canada doesn't count)!
One thing that I'm really looking forward to in Glasgow is going to this:
http://playpiepint.com It's a great idea, for a flat rate you can see a play, have a pint of beer (or glass of wine in my case, I hate beer), and have a slice of one of their pies!
Also, when we get to Edinburgh I've booked a walking tour through Greyfriar's Kirkyard, a cemetery in Old Town that's supposedly haunted by the poltergeist of Sir George "Bloody" MacKenzie, an advocate appointed by King Charles II to execute the Covenators because they refused to replace the Scottish Presbyterian Church with the English Episcopalian church (one reason why I hate religion, it makes people do asshole things for no real reason). The MacKenzie guy was pretty damn brutal(18,000 Covenator deaths to his legacy), and now his ghost is said to haunt Greyfriar's Kirkyard, which is located adjacent to his old Covenantor's prison - built in 1679 and is the first recorded concentration camp.
Honestly for me? I'm going because of how badass all the tombstones look. :-)
In other news, I've been riding my bike in the mornings a lot, which is fabulous. No one is out, I have the road all to myself, and it just looks different when the whole world is still asleep. :-)
Gooooooood morning Cleveland! :-)
So in all, I'm happy to report how happy I am. :-)
