An ode to 2006

1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? Travelled to the Southern Hemisphere

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I dont really remember what mine was last year, but this year it is to be nicer to my girlfriend

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I know of

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Fred and Megan

5. What countries did you visit?
Guyana, Canada, and New Zealand

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
Less drama? does that count?

7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 18... I successfully defend my thesis that day

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Seeing all the things that I was able to see and travel as much as I did. I think the number one thing though would be the completion of my thesis and starting on PhD work

9. What was your biggest failure?
Getting caught driving drunk after 2 beers... and how that happens to a big guy like me I have no idea

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Aside from getting kicked in the balls a few times, nope!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A surfboard

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mom because she has always been there for us and she works damn hard at it too, even being a million miles from here it feels

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My oldest sister and the lies she tells

14. Where did most of your money go?
Travelling

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Surfing

16. What songs will always remind you of 2006?
"Irreplaceable" by Beyonce... its just been stuck in my head for too damn long

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier
ii. thinner or fatter? i lost about 10 pounds or so i think
iii. richer or poorer? about the same there too haha, damn schooling

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Spend time with my dad when he offered me the opportunities

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Oddly enough, travel

20. How did you spend Christmas? At home enjoying time with my mom and dad and sisters

Yup

I had a few one-night stands with Kelly

24. What was your favorite TV program?
24, and I also got hooked on Heroes

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Just people who talk too much gossip

26. What was the best book you read?
I would have to go with "One More Day" by Mitch Albom

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I didnt find many people... how about Young Jeezy?

28. What did you want and get?
A surfboard

29. What did you want and not get?
To get published before the year was done... but it will be accepted shortly!

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Beerfest, Little Miss Sunshine, Apocalypto... there were a lot of good ones since I went to the movies every Wednesday night pretty much

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had my fam here and we went out to dinner at the chart house with Kelly, i turned 24, and I had a Chemistry test

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having Kelly around to keep me up to date with life

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Polo and jeans or shorts

34. What kept you sane?
Exercising, fantasy sports, sleep, and Kelly

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Well I didnt fancy her, it was just very amusing to hear her stories... Britney Spears

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The whole thing in Canada right now about how Quebec wants to get the hell out and become its own nation

37. Who did you miss?
Family

38. Who was the best new person you met?
All the peeps in the GALSM region... but to narrow it down, probably Jon Fritz

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
Although the reason for the season is about giving, it is ok to recieve too. When I was in Guyana there were familes that had nearly nothing compared to our standards, and they just gave and gave so much food, and their blessings. It is had to fathom being able to give dinner to 40 people before giving it to yourself and humbly accepting it.
