Canon Character and Series: Shiro | Deadman Wonderland
In-Game Name: Shiro Ukitake
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Position & Ship: Amestris | Cook or Powder Monkey
Appearance: Shiro definitely stands out in a crowd with her silver hair and bright red eyes, giving her a somewhat albino-like appearance. Her hair is extremely long, well-maintained, and brushes somewhere around her knees. What little skin is visible is somewhat pale, but not unhealthy looking. She stands at around 5'3", and weighs just over a hundred and five pounds, mostly from muscle weight.
To hide her vicious scars, she never wears anything short-sleeved, nor any pants or skirts that could reveal her skin. Always sporting a pair of form-fitting leather pants, Shiro is also typically seen in tight blouses and a pair of simple white gloves.
Personality: Upon first meeting, it is very clear that Shiro doesn't act her age. In fact, she acts more like a six-year-old. Her mannerisms, thought processes, vocabulary, and reasoning are all reminiscent of a child's. Because of this, her priorities are simple and straight-forward, if not innocently selfish. Quite the contrary, really, because Shiro is very selfless, especially when it comes to protecting her friends. She's sweet, easily amused (but also angered), and extremely easy to bribe with sweet things. Show her candy, and her mouth will probably water.
Like a child, she is frank but honest, and tells it how it is while not understanding that being blunt can hurt others' feelings. The girl is stubborn, very naive, and gullible, as well as easily distracted. While Shiro isn't particularly dumb, she may often act as though she is, but not on purpose. There is a brain up in that head of hers. But even so, she isn't always aware of what is going on around her. On occasion, she can be disobedient and hard to contain, and she is acutely sensitive to criticism, and will often sulk about it.
Nevertheless, Shiro is faithful to those she considers friends, and will throw herself without a second thought into the middle of combat. She never considers that she could die or get mortally wounded, and consequences are never thought of until after the fact. When she sets her mind to something, she will do all that is in her power to accomplish it, whether it be getting revenge, making someone happy, or finishing a simple task like cleaning.
But like all people, she has a darker, hidden side that even she doesn't know about. This part of her personality has been since suppressed: an unfeeling, ruthless side that kills with little concern for life. That is Shiro in her true essence: a product of extreme hate as a result of her father's experiments on her. When surfaced, she is inhumanly cruel, and unable to see reason until her lullaby has returned. It's because of this that she often comes across as mysterious, not only for not divulging any information about her family and where she grew up, but for truly not remembering anything about her upbringing. Shiro refers to herself in third person because of this, though she doesn't realize it.
Everything that she "knows" about her past was told to her by her grandfather, and even he knew that honesty was not the best policy. When faced with something grim like death or mass murder, she's very nonchalant and hauntingly indifferent. She's absolutely got a heart, but you try explaining death to a girl who acts like she's in elementary school.
Abilities/Weapons: Normally Shiro is very capable in hand to hand combat. She's light and agile, allowing her to move easily in a fight. In her suppressed form, she's stronger than the average human, and is known mostly for her hard punches and kicks. Unaware that she can use weapons in a fight, her body is her weapon, and she will let it get as tattered as she needs to to get so she can protect someone.
But when the tracking device inside of her stops broadcasting her lullaby -- which keeps her abilities and psychotic personality at bay -- by coming too close to a radio tower (which would clog up her frequency), Shiro sheds her sweet facade and comes out a cold, bloodthirsty killer. In this form, she's far more strong physically, and twice as fast, though not too quick for the human eye.
Lastly, due to a blood disorder, she possesses an ability called Branch of Sin, which allows her to manifest her blood into a weapon. However, Shiro is entirely unaware of it, and her powers are therefore weak. Even when in her unsuppressed form, she can't use this ability due to not knowing enough about it, particularly because since her breakout ten years ago, she doesn't even know it exists and has not used it since.
How well can your character hack?: She can't at all. Computers and most technology are foreign to her, apart from what she's seen in Deadman Wonderland.
Weaknesses: Shiro's biggest weakness above all is seeing her friends get hurt, especially in front of her, or because of her. Deep inside that shell of a body, she has a pure and loving heart that will not allow for her loved ones to be injured. Childishly, she's all for the "pick on someone your own size" argument. Furthermore, another weakness of hers is relationships in general, as she has a very simplistic view of how friendships work in the real world. In this way, her childishness is her one fatal flaw.
Like any "normal human", she's weak against elemental abilities as well as physical, but can tough it out longer with her battered body. She isn't untouchable, but she is definitely not to be underestimated after so many years as an scientific experiment.
History: Shashta was Shiro Ukitake's birthplace and home for the first few years of her life. When her birth parents were killed in an unfortunate traffic accident, she was was adopted by another family that was wonderful to her in the place of her deceased guardians. Because Shiro was merely three at the time, she was not handed over to her next of kin in the Ukitake family, regardless of her father being an Ukitake, due to how far much of her family lived from Shashta.
In the middle of the night following her accident, her father would carry her down into the basement and perform various experiments on her, testing her blood, taking samples, strapping her down and drugging her if she couldn't keep her voice down. By the time Shiro was five and a half, her arms and legs were sore from so many injections. Her life was a nightmare, and the only constant was her brother, who was always sweet to her. She was constantly taken back and forth from home to the nearby laboratories that her adoptive father shared with several scientists.
This proved to be a mistake when they developed the Wretched Egg.
The Wretched Egg was still a prototype at the time, but their miscalculation lied in how strong Shiro was within the body suit, which was a good foot taller than her, and heavy for her small body. And the longer they experimented on her, the more her hate grew. And grew. Until it festered into something so uncontrollably bitter than even her brother, her only friend, was viewed as a burden. One late night during the final touches on the Wretched Egg suit, Shiro lashed out and killed a good handful of the scientists.
Of course, she saved her father for last. He would pay for her suffering, her stolen childhood, and for erasing any possibility she had for a normal life. Shiro set off a series of explosions inside of the research center that totaled the labs and took her "father's" life, but it was the chain effect that caused the most destruction. The rumblings from the center and subsequent explosions triggered a landslide, bringing the laboratories and the entire residential area to a crumbling halt. Many died. But many survived as well.
That was ten years ago.
Following the landslide, Shiro found herself without any family, food, or shelter, and so she took up residence amongst the rubble as she waited for someone to rescue her. Weeks after the tragedy, several citizens of Shashta began exhibiting strange characteristics, namely the ability to control their blood, much like she once could. The creation of the prison Deadman Wonderland atop of the rubble was no surprise, as those deviants needed to be kept somewhere. And where would there be a better place than underground, in the secret Sector G of the prison?
When the prison was still being constructed, Shiro was taken in by a man she would soon come to know as "grandpa", due to his old age. But she was damaged. Confused. And it appeared the only way to control the girl would be to harness her personality and suppress it, so that she could only cause harm to those she was commanded to injure. Thus Shiro became the Wretched Egg in Deadman Wonderland, a feared presence amongst the Deadman secluded in Sector G, who would be pit against her heartlessly.
Her grandpa took up the position of Chief Warden in the prison, whose walls Shiro learned to call home. The Carnival Corpse was a brutal, bloody game in which the secluded Deadmen would be forced to fight each other for entertainment value, not unlike gladiator fights in the Coliseum in Rome. The losers, if they survived, were made to give up an organ for scientific research into the Branch of Sin ability. Years of stagnancy went by, with the cycle repeating itself: more Deadmen coming in, more Carnival Corpse battles, more death, and repeat.
When her grandpa's health began to deteriorate, he was confined to permanent bedrest, and his son Tsunenaga, going by his surname Tamaki, was promoted to the new Chief Warden. Unsurprisingly, things began to take a more sadistic turn with him in power. He would send Shiro, in the form of the Wretched Egg, to fight the Deadman in Carnival Corpse, leaving them no chance for survival. The show would escalate from private viewings to public killing sprees, which were assured to be "safe".
To put a leash on Shiro, a lullaby was installed into the Mother Goose mainframe, Deadman Wonderland's supercomputer, on a frequency that only she and Tamaki could hear, akin to a dog's hearing of high-pitched noises. With it, her true personality would be suppressed, bringing forth a safer, more people-appropriate personality with which to deceive the public. The experimentations on her and her ability would be researched for the years to come, marking her skin with terrible scars that she would undoubtedly keep forever.
Two years ago, she was pit against the Deadman Sakigami Toto, codename "Mockingbird", and defeated for the first time. She damaged Mockingbird terribly, but he was left alive, and in return for being Deadman Wonderland's greatest weapon, she got to keep all of her organs. But then one evening years later, the Mother Goose system shut down as a result of a mass outbreak. And with the absence of her lullaby, Shiro lost control and broke out of Deadman Wonderland, leaving a trail of corpses in her wake. When Tamaki found out about her escape, he activated the tracking device implanted into the back of her neck, and triggered the lullaby once more manually, allowing the song to travel through her system as opposed to through a radio.
Rendered harmless, Shiro found her way around with much ease, using her child-like appearance to gain free rides from city to city. This landed her in Solare, where the airship The Amestris was docked for all convenient purposes. Allowing her curiosity to guide her, she slipped into their cargo bay while the ship was docked, and fell asleep hidden amongst the boxes.
