Happy to be Home

So we are here, we are settled, we are happy. Seriously I cannot imagine anywhere I would rather be. As most of you know, we drove out last Tuesday from California. We honestly didn't realize how much crap we had accumulated over the years. It took us MUCH longer to clean out our apartment than expected. So much longer in fact that instead of leaving early Tuesday morning for Texas we left at 3 in the afternoon. By 3 my brain no longer functioned I just wanted to be on the road. Well, if you've ever lived or visited Southern California then you know there is a HUGE traffic problem due to the insane population. We spent a few hours in traffic and made it no further than Needles California (the one city you don't really want to stop in for gas because of the wild prices but kinda have to because its the last stop for a while.) We decided that it would be wise to get a good nights rest and then make a huge day of traveling on Wednesday. The other part of this was that we had to be in Gunter by 9 am on Thursday to close on the house. No pressure. We got up early (well California time early, the problem also was that Texas is 2 hours ahead of California so right there we already lost 2 hours) Did I mention that we packed the pod solid and then we packed my car solid? Let me tell you. The car was already full. So full that I didn't know how we would squeeze anything else in. I am sitting in our apartment which still has things scattered about staring at our rockin' dyson vacuum cleaner. Its pretty new but I had it in my mind that we had to leave it. I told Josh are we just going to leave our vacuum. He said "no way give me a minute". Would you believe he squeezed that vacuum in my car. Not to mention he squeezed a lot more stuff in that car before we were through. Well we had two big blue containers filled with stuff also and Josh thought it would be a good idea to strap those to the top of the car. Ugh....yea. We are driving a ways...then I hear this whooping sound. I look out the sunroof and see that the lids in the middle are catching in the wind and trying to lift up. We had attached them by using this packing stuff that really is like seran wrap and also rope. So we pulled over and Josh adjusted the rope that had slipped. Driving driving and then whoop whoop again. By the 5th time of pulling over to make box adjustments I was about done. We eventually bought duct tape (which is what we should have done in the first place) and extra rope. The duct tape got us the furthest. The extra rope came in handy as we were in far east New Mexico and that was the last time we had to stop for those stupid boxes. Josh's granny lives outside of lubbock. We needed to stop by her place so we could get josh's truck. We were going to take those stupid blue boxes off of my truck and put them in his and then we both would drive to Gunter, get a hotel for a few hours and then go close on the house. We didn't get to his granny's place until 10:30. By then we were both exhuasted. Josh felt like he had driven an entire day and we needed to rest. So we decided to power nap at her house for a couple of hours but we had to be up and gone by 2 am to make close. We both got up at 1:30 and went and topped off our cars. Josh warned me about a big puddle of water by my car. Well I missed the water but got a foot full of mud in my flip flops. I was too tired to really even care. So we drove through lots of construction out in West Texas. I squished a rabbit. That was awful but there was no where for me to avoid him. I missed it but Josh saw a deer run at my truck. I don't know what was more exhausting the packing of the apartment or the driving in the early morning after packing all of the apartment! Needless to say we made it on time. We signed our papers, got our keys, and drove to our beautiful home.

So now, day #5 in our new home, and we are pretty much settled and adjusted to country life. The pod arrived today and uh I don't know how to open the big heavy door. :) We will start the unpacking process tomorrow. I am in no big hurry. They could have kept the darn thing for a month and I would have been happy. Believe it or not I am missing a fridge more than the washer and dryer! You see now that we are out in the country, we are really out in it. This means the closest starbucks is a little over 30 minutes away. The closest mall about 45 minutes away. Grocery (a real grocery, not a gas station grocery) 30 minutes. So the most important thing right now is to have the fridge set up so we can stock it with stuff and I don't have to run out every day for unhealthy food. I love being way out here. Like I have mentioned previously on flickr, I sit here and hear nothing but beautiful silence. I look outside and see birds and insects...not cars and neighbors that don't talk to you. Even when I went into the city today and traffic was heavy from construction people were curtious. I had no problem getting over 4 lanes to where I needed to be. In California thats a whole different story! I love going on walks here because its not noisy from the traffic. Its just as sweet and quiet outside as it is in our home. People are nice. Everyone talks to you. They already knew we were from California when I went into the post office. I guess in a small town they talk about who's moving in. hahaha. There was a surprising number of spiders in and around our home. I've calmed Josh down about them though. There really are only like 3 in the united states you should be concerned about. His uncle said and really in this area brown recluse are the ones to look for. We found a spider in the work shop...yea it was about the size of a SMALL CHILD. hahaha. Its awesome though and I wouldn't have it any other way. Mom and Dad came up and brought food and we've also gone down there for a dinner a couple times so far (which is nice too to have home cooking as opposed to always having restaurant food!) Tonight we are going to go hear Josh's uncle in a performance out in Lewisville. That should be a lot of fun. Well I am going to end here because I should go shower and get ready but I promise to do more updates from out in the country! I am just happy to be home!!!!
