I'm trying to finish up this interview I did with a Yale alumna via email, but I am having a hard time coming up with an introduction to the piece. I want to get this interview up before I head out for the 4th of July holiday, and it's been over a month since I've gotten the main answers I've asked.
Ack, how do I do this?
Ok, who is this woman?
Well, she wasn't an individual superstar when she ran in the league from 1989 to 1993. In 1989, Yale was strong in cross country. I don't know if she was a part of the team at that time, since there are very limited digital records from that time period and the coach of that time would need to sit down and look through his records to confirm anything from that time. She was strong as an 800m runner, where her personal highlight was winning the 800m in the HY/OC dual meet in 1991. She never won an individual title, but she did earn a regional honor as a part of a relay team (again, I don't know when or which relay due to the lack of digital records at this time and I would not be able to confirm anything with the coach until later this summer).
But she is a key relay person. A dependable leg that will get the job done. She still runs, and has made a name on the master's circuit by helping set a national record in the 4x400 relay for her age group this past April. She did that at the Penn Relays this past year, and the announcer made sure to mention that she was a Yale alumnus, which is what caught my ear since I was preoccupied with some other things at that time. The main editor has never heard of her, and with a quick google search, I was able to find more info about her (including some interesting volunteer work that involves female empowerment in Ethiopia). And thank goodness the email I found worked!
Now how do I write this out for a public article that won't sound stupid?
Or am I being too critical of my work again? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I hate it when I am like this!!!!!!! Damn perfectionism!!!!
writing,
wtf
