well, i'm sitting here trying to decide what new computer hardware to order. of course, it would be nice if my desktop was actually working, but the tech support folks feel that, even though the problem is very unusual, it can be solved one way or another. time is the only issue at this point. anyway, because everything is still under warranty, if they can't fix it, they'll have to replace it. (the problem seems to be with the power supply, but even when a new one was installed, there still seemed to be either a grounding issue or a broken wire issue...not the original problem, but now power to the unit will flash on and off when the power supply or the case is thumped by finger or object, so as-is it is an unacceptable situation.) anyway, i'm wanting an external hard drive, so i can easy keep the bulk of my files portable. i'm looking at the kingwin kh-350u-s (
tech specs and
ordering info), which is both fuctional and stylish, with an aluminum frame which acts as a giant and capable heat sink, and led status indicators attached to bubble tubing which creates a very attractive glowing effect. take a look at the links for more. also being considered is a
maxtor diamondmax plus 9 160gb hard drive for the enclosure, which is outstanding in price, storage, and cache size. total price for both of these items is going to be us$130.00 maximum, which is better than the cheapest preassembled drives by appx 15 dollars, and you get better specs too.
as you can see,
pricegrabber.com is definitely my friend...though some of the user reviews need to be taken with a grain of salt.
