[IC Information]
Name: "Sam" [Samuel Winchester]
Series: Supernatural
Gender: Male
Age: 27

Species: Human

Appearance:
Sam is tall. Not Harry-tall, but he's a good five or six inches over six foot. His hair is brown and a bit scruffy as he's let it grow a bit too long between haircuts. Not that he could tell you when his last haircut was. His eyes are hazel and he has a near perfect puppy dog face, but he has more than enough control of his features that you wouldn't want to play poker with him.
Body wise, Sam is pretty well built. Not overly muscular or 'hulked out', but one could be forgiven for underestimating how strong he actually is. There are scars all over his skin, including a large one along his spine at the small of his back. He has an anti-possession tattoo on his right pectoral and calloused hands. He tends toward comfortable, layered clothing, generally t-shirts, jeans and a jacket or flannel over top.

Personality:
Sam is a quiet, sensitive, studious man. People like to talk to him and tend to trust him on sight. Of course, he's also a very smooth liar, which helps a lot with gaining that trust. He also has a really awful temper. He usually has very good control of it, but Sam is very protective of people close to him and if the temper shows, it's generally because they're in danger. He's not one for making very close ties, though. He's also about as stubborn as they come, which has often put him at loggerheads with pretty much anybody around him. Push him and he's likely to push back just as hard. Either that or go off and do what he was warned not to, just to prove he can. He's a very intelligent man, but sometimes he certainly doesn't seem very bright.
Right now, Sam's main driving force is to figure out who he is. He also feels as though he needs to make up for something, though he can't remember what it is. What little he knows is that he knows more Latin than most people outside the Vatican, that if it's supernatural he can either kill it or figure it out, and that there aren't many weapons that he isn't comfortable using. Sam's not entirely certain what this says about him, other than he seems to be in a place that can use those skills.

History:
As far as Sam is concerned, his life started when he found himself on a street in Chicago, clothes on his back and knowing his own name.

The truth is, Sam was born Samuel Winchester on May 2, 1983 in Laurence, Kansas. He has an older brother named Dean and his life probably would have been pretty perfect if it hadn't been for the demon that pinned his mother to the ceiling over his crib and set her on fire. This was an action that would send Sam's father, John, on a quest for vengeance. John became a Hunter, one of a group of men and women who fight against the forces of the supernatural where they rear their ugly heads, usually with death and destruction following behind.

Sam grew up knowing that his life was different. After all, most of the other kids his age didn't change schools once or twice a year and their older brothers didn't basically take care of them all the time while their dads went off and did who knew what. It was isolating and Sam came to rely on Dean as one of the only constants in his life. John, on the other hand, was barely tolerated, especially when Sam found out the truth of what they were doing at age eight. Once Sam knew, John started training him as much as Dean. It ended up intensifying the animosity Sam had for his father, something that would turn to shouting matches later in his life and put Dean, the good soldier, in the middle. The fights culminated when Sam was accepted to Stanford and John told him that if he left, he wasn't welcome back.

Which was the last Sam heard from his family for almost four years. He made friends, got excellent grades and met a girl named Jessica that he moved in with by his senior year. He was about to interview for law school when Dean came back into his life, saying that their father was missing and asking Sam for help. He did so, though they didn't find their father, and returned to school in time to find Jessica on the ceiling over their bed and bursting into flames. Almost twenty-two years later, Sam set out on the same sort of vengeance trek that John started on.

Travelling with Dean, they criss-crossed the map following the "family business"--saving people and stopping the things that go bump in the night. They eventually met up with their father again, which lead to a confrontation with the Yellow-Eyed Demon who was responsible for the deaths of Mary Winchester and Jessica. It was a confrontation that would lead to Dean being on death's door and John making a deal with Yellow-Eyes to save Dean's life in exchange for his own. Sam would regret that he never got a chance to really make amends with his father.

Yellow-Eyes wasn't through with Sam, though. Sam had some psychic powers, the ability to see things happening in the next few days or weeks, or sometimes at the same time. This would lead him and Dean to other psychic kids that Yellow-Eyes was grooming. Eventually, Yellow-Eyes grabbed up Sam and others and put them to a test, last one standing would lead the armies of Hell. It wasn't Sam. He was stabbed in the back and died. It took Dean making a deal with an angry Crossroads Demon to bring him back. The cost was that Dean only had one year left to live.

This, of course, didn't set well with Sam. He turned his attention to trying to save Dean's life, sometimes with the help of a mysterious woman named Ruby. Who turned out to be a demon, but a good demon. (Not so much, but he wouldn't learn that for a while.) It turned out that she wasn't really trying to help save Dean, but to help turn Sam into the kind of hunter he would need to be when Dean was gone. At least, that was the story to Dean. The truth was more sinister. She wasn't trying to turn Sam into a better Hunter, but rather into a better vessel for Lucifer. And had Castiel not pulled Dean out of Hell and back to Earth four months after he died, it's likely she would have succeeded. As it was, she got Sam addicted to demon's blood, which boosted his powers so that he could banish and kill demons with barely a thought. She got him used to using those powers and turned him and Dean against each other for a time. Just enough time to use him to kill Lilith, a demon who had been hunting the brothers for a while. It turned out that instead of killing her to save Dean and himself, her death was the final seal that would open Hell and let Lucifer out.

He and Dean were saved from certain death by God, most likely, who cleared Sam's system of demon's blood but either didn't or couldn't fix the addiction. On the heels of that revelation came another, worse one: that he and Dean were meant to be the perfect vessels for Lucifer and the archangel Michael, meant to fight and start the Apocalypse. Which would, in turn, kill about half the population of the planet. With the help of Castiel, no longer in the good books with those upstairs, they set about trying to change things, including stopping the Four Horsemen and trying to find a way to put Lucifer back in his box. The only way they found that they could trap him, though, was for Sam to say yes, allow Lucifer into his body and then jump himself. Which didn't go exactly according to plan, but Dean was able to rouse Sam enough to be able to follow through with the plan.

Jumping into the pit will be the last thing he remembers before Chicago. Once he gets his memories back, at least.

Supernatural Abilities:
While Sam demonstrated a fair number of very powerful abilities in Season 4 of Supernatural, nearly all of them were under the influence of demon's blood to give him a power boost. Without the demon's blood, Sam has only really shown these powers:

Premonitions/Visions - Sam's premonitions tend to have to do with deaths and danger, especially when connected to demons in his world. They started out as simply coming to him in dreams but they also happen now when he's awake. He rarely sees anything more than a day or two in advance of it happening and sometimes only hours ahead. Once, he even saw a death happening blocks away just as it happened. Sam can't control when he gets his visions and they always come with a very painful headaches. They have brought Sam straight out of a sound sleep before.

Telekinesis - This is a very minor power for Sam. While fairly strong - he has moved heavy furniture with it - he really can't access it very much. He's only really managed when his adrenaline was very high when he had a vision of Dean being killed. With demon's blood, he has far better access, strength and control of it, including being able to throw people across the room.

Sixth Sense - Sam has a sixth sense that allows him to sense the supernatural, especially spirits. He was able to sense the various presences in the old Winchester house in Lawrence and was able to sense Dean's spirit when Dean was greatly distressed. The stronger the impression, the more Sam can feel.

Immunity - Sam has immunity to the powers of demons in his world.

Natural Abilities:
Sam has a great deal of fighting training and is proficient with firearms, shotguns and various melee weapons. He's also a bit of a research monkey, mostly out of necessity because Dean really doesn't like research. He has a great memory for the things that he reads, though, having become something of an 'encyclopaedia of weirdness'. He can read and recall spells in Latin and knows how to deal with a great many supernatural beasties. He knows how to make hex bags to hide from demons and angels alike. He knows how to pick locks, hack computers, con while in a disguise and jack a car. He's also a damned good actor and butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. Dean's better at credit card scams, but they're both good at hustling pool, darts, poker and the like. Sam also has a great sense of direction and timing, once having found his way back to a farm he went to while blindfolded by keeping track of turns and the time between them. He actually manages to retain these skills, even if he doesn't know how he came to have them.

Possessions:
Clothes on his back: Jeans, flannel shirt, medium weight coat, boots. One cell phone, a Motorola Q. One pistol, stainless steel Taurus PT-92 9mm pistol with mother-of-pearl grips.
