Hunter x Hunter R translations
I don't know if anyone can tell me more about it, but there was once a Hunter x Hunter radio show in Japan, called "Hunter x Hunter R" It's basically a show hosted by the seiyuu, where they talk about the anime, answer questions from listeners and do random drama segments. (kinda like a drama CD, except on the radio) I was aware of it before, but since I didn't know enough Japanese to fully enjoy it, I never really looked for them. But now I have studied Japanese for a while, and while randomly browsing the video site Nico Nico Douga I came across uploads of Hunter x Hunter R. It seems that at least parts of the radio shows were recorded and released on CD, as there are multiple 'volumes' listed. I have no idea how many there were released in total though, I don't own any of the CDs.
But I decided to give the one titled "volume 1" a listen, and it is really great! I don't know if anyone is interested in stuff like this, but I figured it's not something that people can find and listen to very easily. ( I couldn't, before) So I took some segments from it and translated those, in case anyone is interested. A lot of the show consists of the seiyuu just talking with each other (and often through each other), which is kinda chaotic and hard to follow at times. But the dramas and other segments done in character are really fun to listen to, so I wanted to share those. I also recorded the audio clips themselves from niconico and uploaded them on mediafire, so if you don't have a Niconico account, you can just download these to your computer and read along with the translation while you listen. ^^
I apologize for any typos or mistakes, anyone is welcome to help or correct any mistakes I might've made, or give some tips, comments or questions. Sometimes they speak too fast, so I couldn't quite catch everything at some parts. And for my studies I only learn how to translate Japanese to Dutch (my native language), so translating it to English again from there is rather difficult for me. I don't know how to convey certain nuances in English, so my translations might sound stiff or unnatural. But I tried to stay close to what's being said in Japanese, so I hope you can at least get the gist of it like this. Please enjoy!
The first segment is a is one where a bunch of characters give messages to the listener. I don't really know what to call them, but they're kind of... inspirational, I guess? As if the characters are trying to help you when you are down or depressed. XD You can download the clip here:

The second clip is Next Episode Previews. I don't think that they're actually previews of anything, but it's just the seiyuu coming up with silly 'what-if' situations and talk about them in the style of a NEP of the anime, as if they were announcing an episode. It's really random, so perhaps it's great fanart or fanfic fodder. Some people on Niconico made their own animations to go with the previews. XD

Killua: Although I can't really get excited for it, right?
Gon: It's okay Killua, let's take obento (boxed lunch) with us! I'm sure it'll be fun! Umm, pressed Sushi, baked eggs and also...
Killua: If it's about food, you can do that anywhere...
Gon: It's not about that, won't you understand? Umm, Leorio said that he would go last night to get a good spot, he was really enthousiastic! And Kurapika too, he said that "Even if it costs me my life, I'll get us the best spot!"
Killua: He's risking his life? Somehow that sounds interesting!
Gon: That's right! Next time on Hunter x Hunter: "Sakura x Intruding X 1 sho bottle"(2). Be sure to watch it!
(2) 1 sho is about 1,8 liter. No idea what this is about, but it might refer to a liquor bottle or something, since drinking is something generally done at hanami parties.
Gon: Leorio finally fulfilled his dream of becoming a doctor! He opened practice at a local hospital. He lived each day with a sense of fulfillment, but one day a new hospital was opened nearby. And to everyones surprise, the doctor working there was still a child!
Killua: Next patient, please
Gon: And somehow, he doesn't use scalpels for surgery!?
Killua: shakin~ (3)
Gon: Such a rumor has spread through town, and the amount of patients coming to Leorios hospital keeps decreasing each day. Leorio is in a big pinch! (3) I think it's some kind of sound effect, but I'm not sure of the meaning.

Ah, that's right, spring has also come in Leorio's head, and it's so troublesome. (4) Is not the genei ryodan, but some other ryodan, but I can't for the life of me catch what Gon says exactly there. Eikyuukubi no dorakura ryodan? I guessed 'dracula' because of the garlic thing, but I'm not sure... ^^; I'm totally scratching my head at this last one, it's so random... )

Killua: It doesn't make any sense at all, this tower.

Gon: Yeah, it sounds like the roar of a magical beast.
Killua: Don't let your guard down, Gon.

Killua: The voice is coming from this room.
Gon: Let's enter
Killua: Yeah- No, wait. It might be dangerous if it wakes up.

Gon: Oh no!

Kurapika: So that means... that we are locked in this room.

Yeah, that's where it ends. But one of the comments on Niconico said that the continuation of this story is on volume 2. So if there is any interest, and if I have some spare time, I could try to continue with volume 2 and the rest of the clips available on Nico. ^^

I have since managed to acquire physical copies of these cds. The booklets that come with them include some interesting extra material so I decided to edit these posts and add it. Volume 1 has the transcript of a round table talk between Takeuchi Junko, Mitsuhashi Kanako, Gon and Killua. There is no audio for this on the cd, this is just the text as it is printed in the booklet. But I would've loved to hear this conversation... XD

Junko: I wanted the radio show to take a different direction than the manga and anime, so I'm really happy.
Kanako: Half a year passed by really quickly, didn't it?
Junko: Yeah, and the listeners have been giving us a warm reception
Kanako: Gon and Killua are a little different from usual, so even if they exist like this within the radio show, I'm so happy that the listeners also accept that "Yeah, this could also be possible"
Junko: Yeah, I'm really happy too
Kanako: While they accepted this new side of Gon and Killua, they also got to know Jun-chan and me personally through the show. I'm really happy that they are writing postcards to the four of us.
Gon: But people write too many kanji in their postcards so I'm having trouble reading them, you know!
Kanako: I told you so many times to put furigana on them for the show!
Junko: And how about Killua, how is it that you're allowed to do all sorts of things now?

Junko: It's great that ideas that came up during the show, for example Kaida Yuki-san who said that she wanted to do the HH segment, really influenced the contents.

I don't think that they're actually previews of anything, but it's just the seiyuu coming up with silly 'what-if' situations and talk about them in the style of a NEP of the anime, as if they were announcing an episode. It's really random, so perhaps it's great fanart or fanfic fodder. Some people on Niconico made their own animations to go with the previews. XD

Yeah, that's where it ends. But one of the comments on Niconico said that the continuation of this story is on volume 2. So if there is any interest, and if I have some spare time, I could try to continue with volume 2 and the rest of the clips available on Nico. ^^

I have since managed to acquire physical copies of these cds. The booklets that come with them include some interesting extra material so I decided to edit these posts and add it. Volume 1 has the transcript of a round table talk between Takeuchi Junko, Mitsuhashi Kanako, Gon and Killua. There is no audio for this on the cd, this is just the text as it is printed in the booklet. But I would've loved to hear this conversation... XD

Thoughts about Hunter x Hunter R and stuff...
Junko: I wanted the radio show to take a different direction than the manga and anime, so I'm really happy.
Kanako: Half a year passed by really quickly, didn't it?
Junko: Yeah, and the listeners have been giving us a warm reception
Kanako: Gon and Killua are a little different from usual, so even if they exist like this within the radio show, I'm so happy that the listeners also accept that "Yeah, this could also be possible"
Junko: Yeah, I'm really happy too
Kanako: While they accepted this new side of Gon and Killua, they also got to know Jun-chan and me personally through the show. I'm really happy that they are writing postcards to the four of us.
Gon: But people write too many kanji in their postcards so I'm having trouble reading them, you know!

Kanako: Yeah, like from people in areas where they couldn't hear the broadcast. We wanted lots and lots more people to hear it, so we wanted to make a cd as soon as possible.

Junko: It's great that ideas that came up during the show, for example Kaida Yuki-san who said that she wanted to do the HH segment, really influenced the contents.
Kanako: The listeners were also really happy that "It became real!" with Leorio and Kurapika, weren't they!?
Killua: So, will there be a sequel to the drama?
Gon: I wonder if everyone liked the Escher Tower story...
Kanako: It's alright, I'm sure they did.
Junko: On this volume it's like "Does it end here!?", but it doesn't end. Please look forward to volumes two and three of the cds!

People are complaining about Han Megumi and Ise Mariya being shippers, but this shows that it was exactly the same with the old anime, doesn't it?
