Verse: Further Interruptions
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed, some Al/Mei, some Ed/OMC, Alex/Sheska, past Al/Winry, mentions of past Ed/Winry,
Summary: Roy is the Fuhrer. Ed is his husband, a part of his team, a world renowned theoretical alchemist, and father of his two children. Life in the Mustang-Elric household is a series of interruptions.
Author's Note: This series started as a single tumblr prompt of "Married Royed teaching their kid how to do alchemy (Bonus point if total chaos ensues)". It grew into a series of stories, told out of sequence about Ed and Roy, their tempestuous relationship, and the family they come to cherish.
On AO3 - if anyone wants to read this in chronological order it is listed on the AO3 series home page.
Him and His BastardEd’s trying to read. Life interrupts.
InterruptionsSo when a loud boom blew the main door of his office wide open, Roy immediately yelled out, “Ed! Where did you leave the kids?”
Grief God he hated this. He wanted his family back. Right now. He wasn’t meant to be alone.
Always When life made him want to give in, give up, and just curl up and die, he remembered the man waiting for him. The man who had given him a home and a family.
Later Tonight“By all that is holy, what the hell are you doing awake?” Ed demanded.
PossibilitiesEvery story has it’s beginnings. Not even Roy knows how far back theirs goes.
“Wait. I’m married to your Dad?”
She huffed. “You’re my Father. He’s my Dad. What did you think happened?”
“I’m gay?”
She stared at him and her mouth dropped open. “Seriously? You and Dad can’t keep your hands off each other. It’s the grossest thing ever!”
I Don't Want the BottleIt was far too tempting an offer for someone as broken as Roy.
Scorch Marks And then Ed realized the truth. Mustang didn’t have anyone else to call.
Terrifyingly Wild“I almost lost everything on this day,” Roy whispered into his chest.
In This TogetherThey’d have to keep an eye on their far too curious, far too intelligent twins.
GhostsThe only person Roy had willingly let see this darkness in him, the only person who had willing come to him again and again, and Roy had betrayed him with body and mind and words.
His Heart Never DidHe refused to let the man turn him into some tragic story. Ed had defeated far worse creatures than Roy Mustang and he would bounce back from this too.
TimeAnd as he sat at the large fountain in the middle of the square, Ed realized that he was happy. Truly happy.
It's Good To See You Again“It just goes to show you, Brother. No matter how dark the road is, sometimes happily ever afters do come true.”
Pay the PriceHe had reached for his pen to start signing, but he froze at what he saw.
Inappropriate WordsThis, the family they had and the love they shared, was well worth a few inappropriate words.
The Letter“There’s a laundry list of things people have said over the years, but it all amounts to one thing. You. Did. Mustang. Ever since you joined the military, you’ve kept him on your side by letting him bend you over whatever surface was closest. Why else would you still be here, without even alchemy to make you useful.”
GoldHe could probably recite the letter that sat on his desktop, the folds threatening to rip now when he opened the pages, but he couldn’t help the desire to read it once again. It was always there, the need to rip this wound open, but he only allowed it one night a week.
Equal MeasureWhen they were like this, everything was different. He tried not to, but he thought of a future with this man, a family and years of love.
After All“Where is he?” Anyone who thought Mustang had lost his fire after three months of imprisonment never saw him when he couldn’t find Ed. The one thing Alphonse knew about Mustang right now, was that Ed’s obsession to get Mustang back on his feet was rivaled only by Mustang’s need to keep Ed safe.
I Can“You did remember to pat them down for chalk before we came, didn’t you?” Roy asked.
FlamesEd buried himself in Tate, because it was easier to forget Mustang when he was inside Tate’s welcoming body. Tate deserved better, but so had Ed, and at least this he could have.
Something NewIt had started innocently enough. A chance meeting as Ed was picking up Aerugan on the way home from a long, fruitless day at the office. A quick, “Do you wanna…” and Ed had said yes because he needed to know.
Promises“Watch your next words, Mustang. Because I was there when he came home that night. I don’t know why. I don’t know what happened. But it did. Do not lie to me about my brother and what you would or wouldn’t do.”
The Greatest GiftThere was no stronger supporter in his life than his Gold, but his beloved did not stand alone. His team, this family they had created together, was by far the greatest gift he had ever been given.
Bedtime StoriesThere was squealing in the other room and Al couldn’t help but smile at the sound of his niece and nephew. Only two years old and already he couldn’t imagine a day in his life without them. He had a habit of spoiling them rotten.
In His HeadBut he still couldn’t shut it off. This… thing… in his brain. It wasn’t because of Central and it wasn’t because he’d been face to face with the Bastard again. It was because his damn boyfriend wouldn’t leave it the hell alone.
Found“I did it because it was the right thing to do, Fullmetal,” he said as he looked away. He acted like he was looking out the window, but Ed knew the man better than that. He was a bastard most of the time, but he took care of his people. And somehow, over the years, he and Alphonse had become a part of that team.
Nothing He Wouldn't PayHell. The Bastard. This was right up his alley.
I Think I Will"Will you stop interrupting while I’m trying to propose?”
A Lot of Good People“I take it you saw the papers,” Roy asked. He had a stack sitting in front of him and he was torn between disdain at the headlines and amusement that his personal life was of so much interest to people. “You’d think there were more important things to report on than the state of my marriage.”
Just Like the First TimeAnd then the reality of the situation seemed to hit Roy and Ed grabbed his face in his hands and kissed him before he could say anything. And he kept kissing him until they were both too tired to keep their eyes open, let alone talk about this.
So Damn Happy“Thankfully, they seem to be passing everything off as me not getting to be gross with you.”
“I do miss being gross with you,” Roy said with a laugh.
What It Was Really All AboutThe three of them laughed together and it was the first time he’d really felt like Roy and Alphonse might be able to put the past fully behind them.
Difficult Relations“Why don’t you wake up, Ed? This thing with you and Mustang? Do you really think he’s who you think he is? Do you really think he stopped playing around with all those women? He’s just using you and the kids as a publicity stunt.”
JealousyThey were the First Family of Amestris. Normal was way underrated.
TangledThey were both busy and neither of them had ever thought being together would be easy. They’d been through too much already to think that, but every moment he got with Roy was a blessing and Ed didn’t count those lightly.
ValiantHe wasn’t ready to deal with Roy so he sat down in the rocker and buried his head in his hands. He should leave to make sure he wasn’t the one that woke them this time, but he couldn’t find the strength to leave the room. Instead, he listened to the soft sounds of his children sleeping, while his heart tried valiantly to pull itself back together.
PresentRoy backed away from the door as subtly as he could so that Ed wouldn’t know he’d been heard. He waited for Ed to come out, but after a few minutes Roy was still alone in the hallway. He slowly looked in and saw Ed, back in the rocker, with his head in his hands. He could see from the way his body moved that he was still crying. It broke something in him to see it, as if the rest of the night hadn’t shattered him already. It wasn’t enough to go to him. It wasn’t enough to hold him and press kisses to his temple and apologize. Ed needed so much more and he deserved even more than that.
LearningThey weren’t perfect. Some nights Roy couldn’t avoid late night meetings or having to stay to work on paperwork that couldn’t leave the office. Some days, Ed was too drained to do more than put on a brave face for them. They were getting better though. They were working it out.
Quiet InterruptedEd leaned his head in to rest on Roy’s shoulder and just looked down at her finally sleeping form.
First Comes LoveEd continued to look at him and Roy realized that Ed noticed the same things he did. His boyfriend was standing in front of him, but there was something that wasn’t quite right.
BrokenEd had no idea how Roy was going to take this news. Roy, who had become his everything, who had devoted himself wholeheartedly to Ed so many years ago. The man who fell apart when Ed disappeared and who still, to this day, questioned why Ed had ever been with him in the first place.
Moving OnThey were together in every sense of the word, except that they weren’t together.

Creative Denial Alright, it might be childish, but he’d been stuck in the house with ten-year-old twins and a two-year-old for 42 days - and counting. He was allowed a little childishness.
