I DID IT!!!!!!
OK... so after 3 years, I finally managed to finish my first full length original novel!! Wooohhhoooo!!! I am so excited by this you guys!
So, about 3 months ago I reached out to a friend in RL that I hadn't seen in a while. We met up and had dinner and a couple days later she told me about this writing group she's started to go to. It's once a month, an hour drive, but she picks me up, I buy the coffee, and we catch up and then we get to do this writing group.
And it's a really great group, run by a guy who is very knowledgeable, published, really just trying to pass on good info to writers. It's a very open group and very supportive. So we've been going and it's really got me looking at things, publishing wise, differently. And so for Nano this year, I decided instead of writing a new book idea, I was going to just concentrate on writing 50K. Let's be honest. I have 4 J2 challenges to post this month, as well as updates to verses I wanted to do, and I had some longer fanfics that are still in the works and things to update. I have a lot I can work on, a lot that's open, so I didn't want to start something new.
So, 50 K. Any words would do. So I made a spreadsheet to help me keep track and I got 50K written in November. I got down to the wire but I didn't manage to finish my book. Because Nano is all about the word count and I was struggling with the end of my novel. I had to think too hard to finish it in Nano. But I was determined to get my 50K, and then finish my novel this weekend.
Went to the latest meeting of my group today. Came home. Hung out with the kids, made dinner, cleaned up, and sat down to write. And I did it!!!
First draft came in at 75,360 words! I'm so excited!
Steampunk, coming of age story. 75K.
Just... so exited. And so thrilled to be writing again :P
