Hello!!!
Just thought I'd pop in and say hi, instead of bombarding you all with fic that most of you aren't interested in (because I have been way heavy on the FMA and I know most of my LJ friends are SPN fans :P).
Anyway... how goes it?
Crazy year this year. I can't remember what's happened since I last posted anything personal on here. So... let's see. Big things this year.
My Grandpa passed away. He was in his 90s and he's been in and out of the hospital for a couple years so it wasn't unexpected, but I grew up playing in his barn and my appreciation of things that were made of wood, or handmade in general, comes from him. He loved dogs (raised Shelties, my first pup when I grew up was one of his. His name was Indy). He was very no non-sense. I never would have known he'd been in the Navy and been to war because he never talked about it and he was the most gentle man I've ever known.
The day we left Ohio to go home from the funeral my Dad went to the hospital. He had back surgery and he wasn't recovering well. He didn't. He was diagnosed with cancer. We returned back to Ohio a month later when my Dad got really sick and he passed away. I still can't talk about it much. I can't dwell on it even to write about who my Dad was or what he was to me. Let's just say I was a Daddy's girl and leave it at that.
Between funerals, I got a letter in the mail, saying my divorce was finalized. So... at least that was good news. My ex refused to believe it. He said he never got the papers showing it was finalized and told me how I had to give them to him and blah blah blah. I said the courts should have sent him the finalization and if he didn't get it and wanted a copy he could contact the courts himself. I had done everything I was supposed to.
Cue him using my son as a battleground. My daughter can't stand him. She doesn't want anything to do with him. On his two days of visitation each week he is a chaeuffer and a credit card to her, nothing else. I think he's decided that she's mine and my son is his. So now i'm dealing with an angsty teen who is resentful of the fact that she has to see him at all, and my autistic son who is having a lot of behaviors now because Dad is telling him things like "Don't be like Mom and Sister". He ignores anything I try to talk to him about when it comes to caring for our son. The silver lining on all that is that my son's teacher saw right through it immediately and she is pretty straight forward about things. She doesn't pull her punches and it's been better because of that. As long as I let her handle it and stay out of the commentary, it goes done. I can deal with that :p Thank god for her!!
I'm writing again. That's been a huge thing to me this year. Just to be able to sit and type and have words to say. It's been mostly FMA, but some Voltron creeps in. And I did a couple SPN/RPS challenges to try to get me back to the boys :P
I'm doing Nano this year, but instead of writing a new novel, I decided write 50K in already started projects, with the catch that I had to finish my steampunk novel! Almost there! :P I've only added about 3K to it so far, but i'm at the climatic battlescene and that's hard for me so I'm not stressing myself. Oh, yeah, and once I decided how to end the scene I did a little research and found out that no, puncturing an airship's envelope would not actually make it go down and end the battle... so I had to rework the whole thing and find out how exactly you're supposed to destroy an airship.
Other projects, are my spn_reversebang, The Lion and the Wolf which I posted this week! I'm also posting a J2 version of Ender's Game for spn_cinema . I'm doing two stories for the j2_reversebang which I'm excited about. Two great pieces of art and the artists have been super sweet! I managed to write an update for When Nobody Else Knew which I sent to a beta so more J2 Pern soon! I might try to hit up We're Not In Kansas Anymore today too.
Also signed up for a Voltron Challenge just to see if I could manage to write a larger story for the fandom. Their AU Prompt bang is pretty cool. You sign up for a prompt and they pair you with an artist for the prompt. I'm writing a Shiro/Keith reincarantion story. It's going to be pretty epic I think. You could sign up for different tiers and I told them to put me wherever. So i was put into the 30K tier but I think this is going to be longer than that... just to do snippets of each of the lives I want. And the artist is amazing and already working on sketches for it. She said she wants to do one for each life I'm writing which is awesome and overwhelming. But after talking to her I was so stoked about it I wrote the opening sequence and I think it's going to be an entertaining story.
Plus, you know, verses. I closed off a couple because I felt like they'd run their course but I still have 5 open SPN verses, my FMA verse, and my Voltron verse. My verses always tend to be inspiration based and spur of the moment so no guarantees on when something will be updated, but I'm hoping to get a few of those too. It's been too long since they've been touched.
Anyway... off to write. I have an Airship battle to win!
