SPOILERS for 3x01 "The Magnificent Seven".
Sam was well aware of the fact that Bobby had said he wasn't going to find the way to save Dean in the old books and tomes he'd taken to looking in in every town they stopped at, or from anywhere he could find. It didn't mean he wasn't going to keep doing it though because Bobby was only human; he couldn't have read all the books in the world. He might have missed something - and there was no way of knowing how important that something might be.
He'd found the one he was looking at now back at Isaac and Tamara's, hidden in the corner of one of their bookshelves, while they'd all been preparing for the Sins to come to them. He'd thrown it into their duffle without really thinking about but now, sitting outside in the car (again) as he waited for Dean to have his fun (again) with another girl he picked up, Sam couldn't stop himself from pulling it out to look through it.
There had to be a way. He didn't care what Dean did, what Dean said - hell, didn't care, at this point, what Dean wanted because it wasn't fair. He didn't want to live without Dean - end of story.
He didn't want to be alone and if none of the books from here to the end of the year contained any useful information, Sam was going to know that because he'd checked them himself.
He'd take Bobby's advice, though, and look somewhere else too - but it didn't mean he was going to stop reading. Sometimes, things are missed because you're not trying hard enough; this sure to hell wasn't going to be one of those times.
