Everywhere I go, people seem to get hurt.
There was Mom dying and our family's entire world breaking apart: Dad giving up the shop he owned with his friend, getting rid of what was left of the house and the stuff - packing Dean and me up and hitting the road. My Dad and Dean's world worlds completely turned upside down.
They were a happy, normal family until I was born.
And then there was Jessica. Beautiful, clever and wonderful Jessica, who could have had anyone in the world but was unfortunate enough to pick me. Her family was really regular: a friendly, cheerful mother, a warm even if often a little stern father, two brothers and a couple of dogs and cats. Her life was a normal one filled with classes and papers and friends. Until I came along and it all went up in flames.
People around me were always getting hurt. I told Sarah once that I thought I was cursed.
It turns out I am. I'm gifted. I get to watch people die before it happens.
Then I realised that there are children like me in this world. And that most of them are going slowly insane. Most of them are being pushed and pushed and pushed until they snap. Until they become killers.
What I need right now is answers.
What I need right now is to know I'll never be like them - like Max or Webber.
I need to know I'm not a monster.
And if I am, I need to know someone will protect the world from me.
