Prompt 5: "What is the moment or event that changed your life?"
You’ve got to be shitting me.
Tell me you’re not serious? …Okay, apparently you are.
Fine.
Let’s all think real fucking hard about what moment or event could have possibly changed my life.
Hm, let’s see - could it be when my mother died in a fire at the age of four? Or could it be when my father died? Geez, it’s just too hard to choose.
I guess I’m going to have to go with number one because nothing could have changed my life any more than losing my mother, especially in the way we lost her.
Most everyone knows the story by now but it seems that reliving the past is a speciality of these fucking things.
My mother was killed by a demon and my dad went on a crusade and took us along for the ride. A lot of people would frown down on him for sticking a four year old in the line of fire but I say he did what he had to; he made me a soldier and made me ready for anything.
You lose something when everything you’ve ever known is just stripped away in front of your eyes. Maybe it’s your innocence but I know for certain that nothing was ever the same after I was four, couldn’t be the same - not after that.
Losing my mother changed my life and I’m still not sure if it’s for better or worse yet.
