"Old acquaintance"
That's all we've got these days, with the exception of Bobby and Ellen. I mean, Deacon, he was dad's friend but after a while he became what dad did best, he became an acquaintance. But acquaintance or not Winchesters pay their debts, so when he called us for help we helped.
I never had friends, not in the stricter senses of the word. Sam, he was the social butterfly, he wanted to make friends and couldn't understand why we always had to leave, not when he was younger.
Having friends means letting somebody in and forming connections that you can't afford to have when you're a hunter. I could say that in this business it helps to have friends but the truth is dad had people he could go to and people he hunted with, but he didn't see fit to tell his kids about the Roadhouse until it was too late. Demons find your weaknesses and they seek out your Achilles heel, and it's more often than not the people closest to you that suffer the most.
I don't have friends, never did and never will. All I've got is old acquaintances, and even those are lacking these days.
