I'm actually updating this on time, incredible no? ;-)
We headed up to Chemainus for Father's Day, to Gerald and Val's. Things have definitely changed since the last trip where he used to occupy himself quite well for the drive up (it's about a two hour drive). Oh no. This time it was all "Are we at Gerald and Val's yet?" every five to ten minutes, alternated with "How far is Gerald and Val's?" "How much further is it?" and this obsession with insisting that it was dinner-time (it was only 1 pm when we arrived). The best we managed was about ten minutes where he played Vortex on my ipod indspersed with loud shrieks about him "getting to my next level!!!!!"
Once we arrived he settled in to play cars, though everyone was settled out back. He was a little cranky that no one would play with him inside and wouldn't compromise to bring cars out, but he and I spent some time sorting the [Matchbox / Hot Wheels] cars out and then flicking them into a cardboard box, then raced some sliders (friction-powered cars) on the coffee table.
He was more amenable to going out back after that, once a game of Bocci started up. What could be better for someone who loves to chuck things around than an entire game that revolves around throwing a ball at other balls? Surprisingly he was actually really good at it. We were beaten 13-2 but it wasn't me scoring the two points. He also helped Jason and several others play and then took over the duties throwing the pallino.
Deeohgee was on the mend after tearing a ligament in his back leg so there wasn't much running around for him but he gladly accepted some pets from Hunter.
Damon and Charlotte stopped in for a couple of hours with Roan, but he was quite sleepy and spent much of the time in a front-carrier. Hunter wasn't too interested in him just yet.
The highlight was definitely the pinata for Gerald and Troy's birthdays. They make them out of cardboard taped with that brown packing tape that you use to ship boxes from the South Pole to the North Pole. It was not coming apart for anything and a baseball bat was needed in the end. But quite amusing.
