Ten days into the new year, nearly a month since my last posting. Time to cat-ch up. :)
On December 19th, I climbed into the driver's seat and left Virginia en route back to Wisconsin. I had decided that, rather than flying back again, I'd drive , despite the odds of running into bad weather this time of the year. To have my own transportation when back there without the need to borrow wheels or suffer the expense of a rental was worth the risk. The primary purpose of the trip was to spend Christmas with all of my family still there but I was also looking forward to visiting and sharing the company of a few friends as well. As it turned out, I ran into some light snow in the mountains of Eastern Pennsylvania but clear roads and nice weather for the trip overall. 15 hours after pulling out of my driveway in Virginia, I was pulling into the driveway at the farm.
Originally , I had been invited to stay at a friends apartment while back visiting. About 100 miles east of Chicago, I got a phone call from her telling me that a new boyfriend she met 3 weeks prior was staying with her and it would be "awkward" if I was to stay there so I should find a different place. Not exactly the best information to receive while I'm only 3 more hours away from being back. :P However, although I love and care for this friend, I am well aware that she is moody and undependable. I had already informed Horse and Moose there would be a good chance I'd wind up staying there on the farm with them and came prepared with blanket and pillow since I knew they didn't have spares around.
The time before Christmas eve with the family was overall mostly uneventful. Akerin came down to visit and Moose, he and I went to see Narnia the night prior to taking Moose to the airport so that he could, somewhat ironically, fly off to spend Christmas with his family in Virginia. I also managed to meet up with Robin, an old friend, for a short time over dinner. Other than that, the most exciting thing I did was to go shopping for a coffeepot since there was none on the farm to make morning coffee in. I found myself feeling bored, very alone, and as if I just didn't belong in Wisconsin anymore.
Christmas eve with all the family went well. Had a good time and decided to stay the night at my brothers house instead of trying to drive the 32 miles back to the farm after I'd been drinking. Also, thought I'd spend a bit more time visiting with my Mom the next day. However, I woke the next morning feeling very sick. Hungover, maybe , but I didn't think I had that much to drink the night before. :P In any case, I just returned to the farm and nursed my throbbing headache instead of hanging around to visit more.
Monday, I stopped over at Kellie's to deliver her present to her, meeting her new boyfriend in the process. Seems like a nice enough guy, sort of pity him *smirks*. There was also a return visit from Akerin and airport to pick Moose back up again. Prior to that, I had been thinking I'd just head back to Virginia after Moose retrieval but, that night, Akerin suggested his coming back to the farm for New Year's eve and watching the Twilight Zone marathon on the SciFi channel. Sounded good to me. I had very much enjoyed seeing Akerin again. Having the opportunity to spend a little more time with him was an unexpected and very pleasant surprise. I decided to stick around a few more days after all.
I tried in vain to touch base with another friend who had fabricated some picture frames for me. Another one of the goals for my trip back was to pick them up and have the chance to spend a little time with him at the same time. Our schedules never did seem to line up though. By the time he got back to me , it was too late to make the long drive to him. Friday I had a dinner scheduled with Mom since I didn't manage to give her more of my time the day after Christmas and she loves and missed me so much * grins*. Dinner was good but the drive home wasn't. Turned into a snow storm to drive back in. Made the drive alright but I didn't enjoy it. Been a while since I had to drive anywhere in snow. Virginia living does spoil me.
New Year's eve went mostly as planned. Akerin's return , episode after episode of old Twilight Zones. Very fun to see the variety of old actors 'n such. I did manage to fall asleep prior to midnight and missed out on giving Horse a big Happy New Year kiss (NOT! *laughs*). Woke up about 45 minutes after the hour and enjoyed the bottle of Champagne (Not all by myself, we shared :P ) Anyway, I had an absolutely wonderful start for the first day of the New Year. Watched more Twilight Zones until it was time to bid g'bye to Akerin. A much easier thing to do this time since I knew I'd be seeing him again in a few weeks at FC. I also said my goodbyes to Horse and Moose that night, knowing I'd be gone before either of them woke in the morning. Weather, although raining, was warm and not snowing but, it wasn't spose to stay that way. It was time to hit the road and head for home the next morning.
I made one more attempt to contact my friend to see about detouring to pick up the frames but I got no reply on the cell call to him. I did, however , manage to reach another new friend I'd met several weeks back on line to set up a RL meet on my way through Chicago. Timing was good to do lunch together since I got a little later start than I had intended. The visit turned in to nearly a 5 hour visit, making the Bob Evans folks wonder if we were ever going to leave. *chuckles* Had a really nice talk. She's a cool gal and the time spent with her was enjoyable even though it set me WAY behind on my drive back. Only way I'd make it back straight through was to drive all night. So I did. I got home about 5:30am on Tuesday.
Since then, I've just been enjoying being home. Doing some cleaning , some shopping, some relaxing, and welcoming in another batch of puppies to the world. Lily had another litter. Eight of them this time, seven survivors. More little monsters to clean up after for the next eight weeks ..OY! :)I was going to join Rigel, Xydexx , and Kody for Bowling last night. But, Farin was heading home early and wanted to go with so I waited for him. He got caught in traffic and by the time he finally did get back, it wasn't early anymore. Too late to make it in time to make the drive to bowl. Ah well, another time. Pat is currently in San Diego on a biz trip for a few days. I'm just anxiously awaiting my trip that general direction for FC next week.
And that, should cat-ch me up :)
