Is it real?

Gabriel and Dean spent most of their nights alone, which was perfectly fine with Sam. The sex was loud, energetic and the less the had to think about that the better thank you very much ( Read more... )

"Dude, you look terrible." It's not the first time it's been said recently, and probably wouldn't be the last.

"Why, anyway? What's up?"

"I'm fine." He doesn't even reflect how easily they lie to each other about that anymore. Girlfriend burned to death? I'm fine. Sacrifice your soul and go to Hell? I'm fine.

The lie doesn't go unnoticed and Gabriel squeezes Dean's knee beneath the table.

"Something's wrong. I think something happened to Amelia." He plowed on before Dean could object or get that Look on his face again. "I'm not going back, Dean. But I need to make sure she's okay."

He stays in unimpressed silence with raised eyebrows and pursed lips, before he sighs and throws his hands up a little. "Alright, Fine. Whatever. When are we leaving?"

Gabriel squeezes his knee again while Sam fiddles agitatedly with the napkin on the table. "I'd like to go soon, Dean. Please. I just need to make sure she's all right."

I can get us there faster if you want this over with. The suggestion is pushed along the bond shared between Dean and Gabriel. Texas has been a sore spot between the brothers since Dean's return and they had only recently made peace with that in the last few weeks.

I don't give a damn how we get there. He doesn't even really want to go in the first place. But I kind of want to meet the chick he left me in that goddamned monster hell-hole for.

Even as he's pushing the words over the bond, he's talking to Sam, used to it by now enough that he can focus on the two strains of conversation. "Okay. Get your shit if we're driving there."

...That probably gets me way over halfway to being counted as a masochist, huh? It's only half-joking and definitely not amused.

Gabriel presses warmth and affection along the bond to Dean. He's got a weird feeling about this trip, but he's not saying anything about it yet. There's something off about the quick, slightly frenetic way Sam was moving, the way his eyes darted around.

The trip is silent and tense, Sam doesn't sleep as much as he should. He tells himself that it's worry, that he's concerned that something might have happened to Amelia and he wasn't there to protect her. He gives Dean the directions, staring out the window, lost in memories over the past year. A birthday in the park, making out in the Impala, Christmas together.

The more Sam remembers, the more concerned Gabriel gets. I don't think he was telling us everything about Texas. Something's off with those memories of his.

Not really what he wants to hear, Gabriel. He's pretty unhappy as it is; it's taking a physical effort to not be scowling as he drives and it's harder as they get closer. Any idea what?

You want me to take a deeper look? After all, Sam is Dean's brother and he's not going to violate any kind of trust or risk pissing off his lover by rummaging around in the mess of Sam's head without permission.

"Here. Pull off here. Two blocks down and take a right," Sam sits up, looking a bit more awake as they near the house he shared with Amelia. It's okay. it'll be okay. Once he's sure she's okay, he can move on. He can be sure she's all right.

Sam doesn't wait for the Impala to come to a complete stop before he's out the door, striding purposefully to the front door.

And is dismayed to find a seventy year old woman who answers the door.

He follows the instructions, not getting out of the car when they pull up. And then frowning majorly when the seventy year old woman answers the door.

Looks like you may have to. Kid has weird tastes, but I don't think he's the type to be banging bones with pensioners. But the humour is forced.

"Oh damnit.." Gabriel is out the door before he can respond to Dean's weak attempt at a joke.

"..where is she? Amelia!" The archangel firmly escorts a frantic Sam away from the door, adding a touch of power to erase the poor woman's memory of a deluded man accusing her of being a demon. Another touch to Sam's forehead and he's slinging the hunter over his shoulder, depositing him in the back seat of the Impala.

"Drive, Dean. I'm going to take a look in here." He doesn't even look up.

He moves over into the driver's seat and pulls away fast, more than happy to leave the town in the dust. "What is it; what's going on?"

"Sioux Falls. Drive." Gabriel closes his eyes and touches Sam's forehead, falling silent for a long moment.

"You poor deluded bastard," he breathes.

"There was no Amelia. Your brother's been hallucinating. He's never been to Kermit Texas. He's been in Nebraska, building Bobby's house." Pale and drawn, Gabriel appears in the front seat. "Sammy.. has gone bye bye."
