Hello Hurricane

Jun 29, 2010 18:17

Living by the coast for so long, you'd have to imagine being accustomed to a brewing gulf storm ever so often. With the sunshine and warm weather, you kind of forget that a very disruptive force can come out of the blue and cause massive damage.

Well, here we go again, as they say. Tropical Storm Alex, which by tomorrow or later this evening, will become Hurricane Alex. All over town, South Padre Island, Tx, businesses have been boarding up windows, nailing down whatever the wind might pick up, and telling their customers to do the same.

For the most part the whole area, after the disaster that was Hurricane Dolly, has been quick and serious in response. Yesterday I did the same to my house - and now I'm waiting for my family to gather their things and head out of town and avoid the storm all together.

Personally I'm alright with this. After the last storm, I've got no willingness to do so ever again. Mother Nature is a B I T C H. That and I don't want to have to gather chairs and push them against a frail door that might blow off the hinges. Oh no, not gonna do it. if you check my twitter (twitter.com/spindash) you can find updates about my status - hopefully the hotel I'll be staying will have internet. In fact I'll make sure it will.

Well I'll be gathering my things and heading out. God speed.
