I love those "five things memes" but rather do some of the characters I'd like to answer about get called. Some do, but some of the lesser secondary characters get looked over. SO this is my head canon, mostly based in the context of my stories A Rose Bloomed and The Space Between Us.
1) Yoshino is retired ninja who never tried for above chuunin. She retired after deciding it would be better for the marriage to not both be shinobi, though her decision was also influenced by losses from her original genin team. She never talked this over with Shikaku. She was somewhat surprised though to discover she loved her new career and has rarely regretted giving up being a ninja.
2) She is a photographer. She got her start in photography as a genin. She learned to handle a camera for spying jobs taking dirty pictures. She also developed a few "flash" jitsus after learning how flashes in cameras worked. Unfortunately they are tricky to use in battle as they effect your side as well as enemies, temporarily blinding all.
3) She knew Inoichi from childhood as they grew up in the same neighborhood. This was how Shikaku and she met, but since she was several years below them in school and then several years of teenage drama (mainly involvng Inoichi acting like :a chauvinist pig" and Yoshino acting "like a know-it-all") it wasn't until Yoshino was in her later teens that they were introduced.
4)Shikaku fell very hard and fast. He had to be rather persistant to get Yoshino to give him the time of day, largely because he came off as too serious and intense. When this is mentioned in the "story of how we met" to Shikamaru he never really believes that his father would expend that amount of energy to get a girl.
5) Yoshino's genin instructor was Uchiha Yarshiro. The funeral flowers Shikaku purchases are for his funeral in, my story "These Memories Beneath my Ribs," following the Uchiha massacre. Ino's mother, Aiko, was another genin teammate, which is how, eventually, Aiko and Inoichi met. The third member was a Hyuuga woman who never married, and died on a mission. Very little detail has ever been released following why. After chuunin exams they did not often work together as a team, each having skills that worked best for different types of missions.
The reason her genin cell was all-female (and that the original Ino-Shika-Chou was all male) has to do with an educational fad that had been a popular expeirment for a few years, claiming that young shinobi would do better when instruction could be better tailored to one gender's needs and strengths and weaknesses. It also had to do with complicated politics about kouinichis' place in the shinobi world. Though the one-gender teams is now an out-dated idea, extra kouinichi classes, such as we saw Sakura and Ino taking in flashbacks, exist because of those same political debates.
Inoichi
1) Prefers sleeping out of doors following the events of the Kyuubi attack when much of his family, including his wife, were crushed in rubble.
2) His mother is still alive and several uncles, cousins. They are no longer a close clan. Inoichi was not heir before the massacre. His elder brother, and his mother's favorite was. Inoichi temporarily assumed the position as head following the massacre until his brother's son (who was at the academy at the time of the attack and therefore survived) came of age. This boy went missing on his first genin trip along with the rest of his team. They are presumed dead, but are actually in ROOT. Ino became the heir at that point.
3) Proposed to a woman he hired as a store clerk when Ino was six.
4) Likes s'mores
5) He works in the I&I offices under Ibiki. In addition to his work in the office he keeps a large spy ring, recruiting both shinobi and civilians from all over the land of Fire. He uses his florist business as a front to allow shinobi an excuse to visit him and pass information. He actually knew little about flowers before that point, but chose that business as somewhere his wife could further study the First's wood-based techniques.
Kurenai
1) Was at one point an active member or Inoichi's spy ring
2) Had a Uchiha lover
Hyuuga
1) Hiashi did care deeply for his daughters. After losing his brother, Hiashi blames both himself and Hinata for Hizashi's loss, which complicates their relationship. Her poor Shinobi skills also make him certain that not only would she not be a good Heir, but that Hinata is likely to die very young and Hiashi thinks it will be easier to face that by closing himself off to her now. He sends her away to Kurenai partly in hopes that a different trainer will help her, partly to further emotionally distance himself and partly in vague hopes of discouraging her to be a shinobi.
2) the Hyuuga clan, and all clans, are structured according to the Ie or House system that was in place in Japan till the 1940s, following WWII. This means that the Clan Head is part of the Main House and only one child will succeed as heir. This child is usual male and/or usually the eldest, though exceptions have been made, depending on temperament and whether the heir declines their birthright, allowing other children with better temperaments to take on the Head position. Being Heir also means that their bride or bridegroom is usual picked by parents, and marries into the family regardless of gender, becoming an adopted-daughter-in-law or an adopted son-in-law. The heir is also the one with the duty to care for aging parents, who will live with them all their live. The heir's brothers and sisters would form their own households, "Branch houses" or marry into another family. The heirs of the branch houses work the same way with one kid inheiriting becoming head of that unit/branch of the family and other kids forming branch houses of the branch houses.
This means for the Hyuuga that both Hanabi and Hinata remain a part of the Main Family till marriage, when the one who is not heir will either establish her own branch house or marry into another family and/or branch of the family.
3) By the time skip, Hinata is once again being considered as Heir, which is why she has a bodyguard with her.
4) All people in the branch houses get the seal whether they are born in, or marry into a branch house. Hyuuga mostly marry one another as teh byakugan is a recessive gene, but even those who are no Hyuuga by birth would get the seal.
5) The Hyuuga have lived along the Nanako River since before the founding of Konoha.
1) Hanabi has teammates who end up dating each other. Earlier they had crushes on Neji and Hinata, which caused Hanabi much embarrassment. Crushes or no, dating or not though, Hanabi's pretty found her teammates mortifying 24/7.
2) Her team is unable to participate in the first genin exam their sensei considers because it is in the Hidden Cloud. She fails the next time it happens and the third finally makes it.
3) She is often jealous. Jealous of Hinata when she comes back home after her first Chuunin exam because she has Father's attention. Jealous of Neji because he vias for Hinata's attention. Hanabi really wants close relationships with people but has a hard time forging them, in part due her prickly nature and in part because of these jealousies.
4)Eventually becomes a spy
5) by the time she's 17 knows she will not be heir and furthermore does not want it. Because it would lose her her independence, her chances to take spying missions and working up the ladder. It would also mean her sister would have to be sealed. At 17, Hanabi has no intention of marrying or falling love. She will get to stay near family and in the Main House that way.
