Shikamaru's five facts from a previous round of this meme and five for this round:
1) If Naras are not paying attention and (or are still learning family techniques) shadows might behave in erratically around them based on their emotions, size and closeness to the Nara.
2) Shikamaru originally intended that Sakura's role in the plan he devised concerning Sasuke (after Pein attacked Konoha) be his own. He intended to talk to Naruto about Sasuke. The role of messenger is given to Sakura in reaction to her crying and her steely resolve. The group that was originally going to track Sasuke down was team eight and team gai, due to the one's search and retrival speciality and the other having Lee on it, respectfully. They were then suppose to monitor him and alert the others to drawn Sasuke into a trap. Plans were shifted when the "rookies" insisted that people go with Sakura. Following the fallout of how the plan went, Shikamaru will have mixed feelings about his plan's failure.
3) He doesn't end up taking any missions with Chouji and Ino between the time he becomes a chuunin and Asuma dies. Technically, his first mission with them is to avenge their sensei. The second one happens after he resigns from the squad he'd been on with Asuma. At his request, he is placed on a mission with his old genin teammates, and mostly plays the part of the lookout. In contrast to him, Chouji and Ino had, at that time, never done a mission without the other there; this shows and Shikamaru is both jealous and hurt by this.
4) He doesn't eat much when worried or thinking over a problem. He will smoke though when worrying over a problem, despite mostly quitting a year or two after Asuma passed away.
5) If he gets sick, he tends to not tell anyone and just crash. He often will forgo getting food or meds or even seeking help. He will however, milk it if Ino or his mom offer help when he's sick. In his defense, his mother makes homemade noodles for people who are sick.

If you like Shikamaru stories, maybe you've read this, but you might like the story Walk Through Shadow. The author does an amazing job of fleshing out the world of Naruto, especially the Naras. Her other stories are very good too.

Oooh, I have read that! It was just updated...yesterday, I think? And then I went back and reread all that had been posted so far (it's only a few chapters along right now, I think), and contemplated rereading the main Ino-centric story she has, but it was just too long for the moment.
