redbrunja asked for my Top five yuletide fandoms. take that question however you want.

I'll talk about five of the ones I DID end up nominating (though, look at that list! So exciting; so many good things to choose from and/or add to the list.)

1.) L. Frank Baum- Oz book series both for writing and reading. This was my first fan obession before I even knew what a fan was. I love all of Baum's books and there is a lot to explore. A bi-gillion characters just from his fourteen Oz books (there is the "famous forty" that is considered canon written by him and later others, but most of the others I have never been able to get a hold of and read), almost all of his non-Oz books still fit in the same canon so you could play with that, and there's all the conflicting backstory or holes in the back story that would be cool to play with. I like when people try romance in Oz, or tackle aging, or politics, or familial issues of Oz. I mean, no one ever ages? WHAT? What seems to be pretty amazing about the (few) Yuletide fics for Oz is that they do tackle these and still keep the tone of the original books too. That would be the one issue I'd find hard- keeping the tone.

2.) Remember WENN once again for both reading and writing. Remember WENN was a TV show that ran five seasons when AMC, the channel that produced them, started running out of money and cut the show. It is set in the late 30s/early 40s in a small Pittsbrugh radio station that is always struggling to stay out of red and on the air. It is pretty strongly ensemble and it could be written for pairings, of which there are several that are canon (and a whole lot that aren't but might be fun to write). It could also be very enjoyable as gen because while everyone loves each other, they drive each other nuts. The show is by turns campy and serious and managed to pull off waaaay out-there plot twists convincingly. I loved how all the scenes were in the same four sets. Basically anything about this show would be awesome. Small moments, following minor characters... OR, since, the series unfortunately ended on several major, major cliffhangers... How is everything resolved? Who did Betty choose? Who ran the station? How did the war end for these people? Is Hilary really married? DOES MR. FOLEY THE SOUND MAN EVER GET TO SPEAK?

3.) Full Metal Panic to write.I mean, I'd love to read it too, but... I wrote this series for Femgen and it turned out to be one of the stories I am most proud of and would love to try it again, but I think.... having a suggestion or prompt would help this. It has a pretty-canon couple, whom I love but... as it was Femgen, I did not write about it at all. Plus, poor fandom. It does not have, I am sorry to say, that many great fics. The ones that rock really rock but... Not that my story would for-sure, but It'd be nice to be making someone's day with this fandom.

4.) Laurie R. Kings' Russell-Holmes series. There's about five stories and, oddly, they are all about the love and/or sex taking place between the couple. I'm sure that is what was asked for and it IS an interesting relationship, but I love them solving things together too, and I love all the secondary characters. Let's have a story about Lestrade or Iris or let's hear about Dorothy Ruskin's first dig. Or let's hear more about Russell's awkward Uni dating; or about what awkward parents/ people-watching-children these two would make; or people's reactions to both the war starting or the declaration of the ceasefire. Mysteries, I admit, might be too hard to write well that quickly and shortly but there's more that is there.

5.) I also nominated a fandom that had not been on the list yet, Alive the Final Evolution. It is a shouen manga about solving the mystery of a mass occurance of suicides and the people who develop strange powers in the wake of "nightmare week." I love the shades of gray amongst the villians and many of the allies of the main character. Plus, even though there are some tendencies towards fanservice, the ladies get to kick the most ass (as in constantly). There is a small fandom, but basically no fic, so I'd be pretty interested in seeing what people did come up with. There's a lot of characters to choose from, no offical pairings (but two strongly supported ships and a lot of people you could pair together if you so desired). The fandom is appereantly expecting to "explode" when the anime being made is aired. We shall see.

And five I didn't nominate but am still interested in....
Howl's Moving Castle Both the movie and the book.
The Princess and the Goblin... trolls, and magic grannies in attics. How could this not be interesting?
Maud Lovelace's The Betsy-Tacy Series A little torn by this. I mean, the books take Besty from when she was five to past her getting married. What more is there to want? Well, I'm sure there's always more to wonder about...
Mirrormask What happens with Valentine/UnValentine? What happens to Helena
Narnia there are so many great fic writers here. Part of me seems to feel it is messing with my childhood to fandom-love this, but the fic and people are too good not too. Doesn't seem to be "small" in the way a lot of the other rarer fandoms are though...

fandom:alive-the final evolution, fandom:wizard of oz, meme, yuletide!, fandom:russell and holmes mysteries, fandom:oz
