Honestly, I get what you're asking, I think, but if a jinchuuriki kid can magically make years of war between Suna and Iwa disappear, the Third forgiving Orochimaru doesn't seem much more absurd... I feel you on Karin's portrayal - it's really not flattering. And it's disturbing that the only girl who seems in touch with her sexuality is a creepy pervert. On the other hand, I kinda like that she looks seriously off. First, it doesn't seem to be portrayed in a very positive light (as in, we're not supposed to want girls to be like her?) and second, given her background, it makes sense. She had stockolm-syndrome for Orochimaru, and had idealized her memory of Sasuke, so it sounds plausible for her to transfer her stockolm syndrome to Sasuke?
3) NO, KISHIMOTO, NOT SHIKAMARU. YOU CAN'T! HE'S A FAN-FAVORITE! ;__; ...I think what happened is that the roots of the tree tried to catch ninjas, and once they caught them, they sucked them dry (of chakra). So only the ninjas that got caught by a root. I guess Shikamaru was caught, sucked to almost death, but was freed before he died? (But why make it happen off-screen, Kishimoto? You show us random ninjas, but Shikamaru almost dies and we don't get to see it?)
3) Yay for Ino getting a new skill, and getting a part of the Yamanaka coolness. Way to do it when we can't appreciate it, though. (But yeah, between that and their combo earlier, Team 10 got some really cool action ~ )
You could just read it as fanfiction fodder. Nothing wrong with that, is there? If you like the world-building and the characters but not the story, you can get a different story or a different focus this way, right?
2) Oooh. I like the possiblities of her continued infatuation with Sasuke being rooted in her weird background with Orochimaru.
Both Ino and Sakura (Well, mostly Inner Sakura from Part One, but also there's a gag about a male version of "Sexy No Jutsu" in Part two at one point that Sakura drools over) have stated similar things about men. But you're right; I don't think we are meant to think it is appropriate behavior.

I do pretty much read it now as a fanfiction fodder. And I've definitely made the stories go a different way (most recently by bringing Neji back form the dead, lol). But it still seems depressing how some of the story seems so rushed over. That's life though :)
