Plumb crazy

The shine has totally gone off the whole new bathroom thing. We're still waiting on a couple of little details to be done. There's a bit of skirting that didn't go right and we still don't have a toilet roll holder and now the hot water is all funky. We talked to the council building inspector and there's now way around it - if you put in a new shower you have to install a tempering valve. We've asked the bathroom company to price up a few options for us and it's not really looking that great. For $500 we can put in a fancy valve that might improve things or for three times that price we could put in a pump that gets all the way up to "likely to help". So it's looking rather like a new hot water system is the thing. A new electric cylinder is the easiest and probably cheapest option but there are  more eco-friendly options out there that I'd really like to find out more about. There are heat-pump systems that look like a good idea and an instant, tankless system has a certain appeal but I'm going to need a shower before I can make a decision of that size.
