First Class

Ferdi's been at school for a whole term. How time flies! He's had a lovely introduction to school and I can see now, with the benefit of hindsight, that a lot of the trouble we had at Playcentre was just a symptom of him being over it and ready for the next step. One term in and he has friends, is beginning to read and write and is happy and confident in his new role as schoolboy. I've spent a lot of time at school supporting him and helping out with his class which has been really positive for both of us. It's a lovely group of kids and parents and I'm loving hanging out with them.

Crispin's doing OK. He's good at the stuff he likes but as soon as anything is even a little out of his comfort zone he loses focus entirely. His teacher is managing with enormous patience and I think (wishfully maybe) that he is finally starting to see that he needs to knuckle down and get on with it. He's perfectly capable of doing the work but I think he got into some bad habits last year and it's a whole lot easier to form those habits than it is to break them again. We've got some strategies to try so, as long as he stays on board, eventually he might get there.
