This is a repost from my GreatestJournal. I take this shit seriously, and I have nothing left to say today.
For the Fall Out Boy show in Cleveland, I paid $0 for my ticket ( and got Amanda's thrown in for free as well ), $45.50 for my round-trip Greyhound ticket. For Green Day, I paid $100 for two tickets, and $100 for a round-trip bus ticket I couldn't use, not to mention the $50 or so I spent on gas in the end with my mother. I paid $20 or so for gas for Good Charlotte, and $50 for a ticket.
You'd think that for those shows where I was dropping a lot of cash, I'd get to meet the band or something. For Green Day, my seats were shitty enough that I could barely see Billie Joe. I could hear great, but I couldn't see. Good Charlotte, I was right up close, but still. Neither band wanted to meet the fans.
I paid nothing except for my bus ticket, and the $45 I dropped on merch at Fall Out Boy, and I spent the afternoon/evening with Peter Wentz, Christopher Gutierrez, and the rest of the guys ( though not as much time as Pete and Chris, which is why they get the mentions ). Those boys are fucking class acts. They treat you like a friend, they treat you amazingly awesomely. Pete was going to go to dinner with us, if they had the time. Pete is going to text-message me. He wanted to talk to my best friend on the phone; he didn't care that I kept asking for things like hugs, pictures, kisses, conversations, etc. He honest-to-God cares about those people who are willing to come stand in the cold, sit in a fucking record store for FOUR FUCKING HOURS to be first in line to see him, and all of that shit.
I fucking stood in line all evening for Good Charlotte, and what did I get? Nada. I drove all afternoon for Green Day, and did I get anything? Besides a couple songs, no.
Fall Out Boy not only provided awesome tunes, a great atmosphere, and awesome new friendships, but as I have found out from Chris, they donated money from the show I attended to handicapped kids.
To repost the things Chris said, so that if you didn't read, you can see what I'm talking about, here's some things FOB did/have done:
-Asian Dan sleeps about four hours a night so that they don't have to worry about being on time
-They make sure they have picks, water, whatever for the fans
-They don't charge $30 when they could get that OR MORE for shows
-They give away shit
-They put people on guest lists all the time
-Not one of the 11 people in the van got more than five hours of sleep on this tour ( and I know Joseph Trohman specifically had, the night before Cleveland, one hour of sleep. He told me himself )
-They talk to the bouncers to make sure they're extra nice
-Chris and Jim took coffee and tea out to the kids who showed up with no jackets or gloves in single digit weather to try to keep them from being sick
-Pete has had kids who are getting manhandled pulled onto the side of the stage so they stay safe
-Pete got a club in downtown Chicago okayed for 14 year olds to go to, even though it's ILLEGAL
-Two girls got their noses broken on the 30th at the HOB in Chicago, and Pete and Andy stayed with them afterwards until the ambulances came for them
-The money from the Cleveland show went to help handicapped children
-When the boys do good on tour, they give some extra cash to the opening bands ( and as Chris said, that NEVER happens for anyone else)
-They do every single interview like it matters, no matter how shitty a zine or whatever it is
-When the guys have a show they don't feel was 100%, they actually feel really fucking bad about it
This is not something most bands actually fucking care about. I am one of Mest's biggest fans, and I know for a fact that sometimes they do shitty shows and don't even care. But saying shit about Fall Out Boy is fucking insane, because every single one of those boys and their friends go out of their way to make sure that it's a good show, a good time, and that everyone leaves satisfied. It's not fucking fair of the fucking 'scene' kids to go out and fucking shit talk, just because 'Ooh, I didn't get to kiss Patrick' or 'Ooh, Andy didn't talk to me, so let's go start a rumor that he's fucking every girl he comes across'.
I swear to God, if any of these kids are like this for the Fueled By Ramen tour, and for the Warped dates I will be attending, there WILL be hell to pay, courtesy of me. I don't care if I fucking break noses by 'accidentally' elbowing someone talking shit. I don't care if I get into a screaming match. I have never met a band, save for MAYBE Waking Ashland or Never Heard Of It -- both a hell of a lot smaller and unknown -- that have actually taken time out to talk to their fans and try to get to know them. Fall Out Boy are getting bigger and bigger, and still, Pete and the boys do everything they can to make everyone happy. If anyone messes with these boys, it gets to me, because I feel like they're my babies now that I've met them, and that they're my friends. Nobody messes with my friends, NOBODY. When they do, I make it my agenda to tell them off.
I fucking hate scene kids.
