Just watched Kato Shigeaki on Hanamaru Café subbed & translated by ikujinashi, shin_shin127 and calpis37 ( link to the f-locked dl post at news_jpop, I guess everyone who's into news is on one of those comms anyway).

- What's with this excessively expensive T-shirt business? XD Those guys... they have become my steady source of entertainment.
- I love the way he talks about things. Saying that he imagined "law" as being something cool to say when on a talkshow - if Yamapi switches between on and off, Shige definitely switches between cool and uncool, haha. <3
- Sleeping!Shige and his humongous (slightly ugly) hugging pillow! He said he's done that since elementary school, so I'm wondering wether his mom kept extending the pillows as he was growing? I'm sure size matters when it's about being comfy. XD
[I had something similar to snuggle onto, a plush walrus sewn for me by my big sister when I was seven, and the thing was bigger than I was. SO. I still love it, but now I'm taller and well, it's not so snuggly when it's small. WHO WILL EXTEND MY WALRUS FOR ME? ;_; *has wished for another over-sized snuggle thingy since she outgrew the walrus*]
- Scared easily, right? I remember the Yamapi vs. Ryo battle thingymaboob where Shige loses in a game and looks quite unsettled when he suddenly gets a blast of air blown into his face. Takki, of course, might have fallen of the chair by then, so Shige's reaction was still quite... well, manly might be too strong a word after all. ^^
- Always sleeping on the right being a habit, facing the wall to minimalize the chance of ghosts approaching. Do the hosts try to take away his safe wall side, suggesting that "hands come out of the walls in movies"? Haha!
- During concert. Rotating around his three pieces of expensive undies, for better luck. WTF, Shige? XD

Thank you, Shige, for suggesting that to my brain. I couldn't help but imagine how it'd be if his mother was blogging like he does. Enter Shige-dimension, where the whole family might be on crack. 12th - downloaded N.E.W.S. dvd.
16th - watched said dvd (peeked into disc 2, then the kagoshima documetary as recommended by Her Evilness Herself, then the extras, and finally some more of disc 2 and disc 1), first impressions: eeeeeeeee, pajamas! Glasses! Mirror performance! Then a group performance thingy in the dark, and oho, they can actually dance. And sing, too. Even the costumes aren't as bad as other Things Seen At Johnny's Performances. But, boygroup, squick! Wait, what's that shiny performance with that guy playing guitar and his steadily slipping t-shirt *shoulder fetish* ... *_*
This list could go on and on and on. Not to mention that I loved these guys immediately when I watched the extra and backstage, and the food sequences. Because I love food, and behind the scenes stuff, and all the more if there are pretty boys involved. Yamapi making kissy-fish-lips in the background while Koyama is walking down the aisle with the camera! Shige!dancing on the sofa, and the hand/lip thing. The Ryo/squealing!fangirl air-kiss thing, including reactions - FTW! Onsen. Force-feeding. Someone has got an animated icon that says something along the lines of "Why oh why Johnny?!", and I just want to say that I can only agree. WHY OH WHY I ASK?!
I did not want to know anything about NEWS, because they had YamaPi, and I refused him from the beginning, for he was showing up on T&T pics and always looking kinda stupidly with his fishface (yes I was deliberately shallow here I know), and well, I had decided to not ever get to know more about him, since he seemed to be the incarnation of everything that is JE and it's mafia of sparkly (younger) boy groups.
Except, well, he isn't as bad as I tried to make him. The moment I started to not dislike him anymore was the moment I knew I was doomed. DOOMED. I still think he's talking like a pleb a lot of the time (although the way he does it is charming, damn it), and that he should lay off the protein drinks, because, hey, gaining muscles is fine but the step to becoming too solid is a small one. BUT. I admit he can sing, and also, dance. Okay, maybe he's fine after all, even when he does that irritating thing with his left hand on the mic every other second. Someone paralize those undulating fingers, please (he's lefty, right? I wonder why he doesn't do it with the other hand too, strange tic).
[Edit:] Okay, someone just shared Koyama & Shige calling Yamapi while they're on a radio session. It's those short and not really important snippets that make me love those guys, hard. I just have such a weak spot for dorky behavior.
I just like about everyone of NEWS. Naturally, as I haven't followed them before, I never got into the two temporarily suspended members, but I've already seen pics and clips and can kind of recognize them, too. On occasion.
So what's the problem with NEWS, it's not like it would be the first JE group besides T&T that I know - there was Arashi first (or second), remember?
The difference is that I solely like Arashi for their cracked out members. I love those interview and backstage snippets, I'm really fond of the individual characters, but I don't feel compelled by their music at all. Single PVs excepted, if only for being ear-worms and full of rainbow gayness. <3
NEWS, on the other hand, have nice guys with nice voices who - at least lately - sing stuff I like listening to. And they're such NICE GUYS. Or, as darkeyedwolf put it, it's omg!group orgy. I can not believe I immediately accepted the idea of bandslash. WHYYYYYY?! Where did my innocence go? As if there ever had been such a thing in the first place. XD
I can not believe that I've read TegoPi wankfic. More than one. Tegoshi sort of nearly molesting YamaPi in his sleep+! And it wasn't too bad = hello crack yay!

I don't care wether or not NEWS doesn't have an actual leader, and if it is Pi or not, or should really be Ryo or not, or if Shige is talking about it and WHATEVER. It really does not matter, stop the drama, there is no drama! Geez. I'm in this fandom for a week now, and I'm already sick of the people (read, other fans). That doesn't even include the obligatory rumors about disbanding/people leaving or being exchanged/etc.
I'm so glad I was never into boy groups before because I never saw asian boygroups and americans and european guys are simply not cutting it for me. Because of the fans' insanity. I like insanity, but it comes in good and bad flavours. Boy group fan flavour is a bit like poop-flavoured jelly beans. Even if it is colourful, it potentially tastes nasty.
Yes, I know that's unfair and generalized. I really, genuinely like NEWS, and the people I know from my f-list, who like them, are perfectly good normal people. It's just the depths of the pit that scares me with it's badfic and teenage rambling, same as in all other fandoms, I guess. I'm sorry, I just need to ramble a bit to cure myself from the shock of fangirling a boyband, JE of all things. It sinks in slowly. XD
Also, all of you great people who are slaves to Johnny's boy toys? It took me damn long to realize what you were talking about. It took me months alone to figure out that JE stands for Johnny's Entertainment; I previously believed it was just an abbreviation for "Japanese Entertainment".

Tackey and Tsubasa are constantly switching, both having the same score of sympathy points. My first instinctual reaction was to target Tackey, but then I noticed that Tsubasa is actually very sweet and mischiveous, and that he can sing, too. And that he looked hot at some stage. Even with his fat lips *evil* :D Then came Samurai, and here I have to disagree with everyone else: not good. Not hot. Greasy!Tsubasa!hair. Long hair that makes him look chubbier than he really is, and not in the aww-widdly-cute-chubby-face-way (think Massu). And maybe it's my history with martial arts, but sorry, I don't buy samurai!Tsubasa. Doesn't convince me at all, the posture is just not genuine. I like dance!Tsubi and action!Tackey. ;_;
To make them even, the single PVs from their newest single are both bad, Tackey walking with his clone, and Tsubasa looking depressed while walking down a road. Quite the cheap productions, eh? XD Or maybe I just need to watch them repeatedly to appreciate them better (wouldn't be the first time).

Sho (adorable smile), Ohno (hee!), Nino, then Aiba, and faaar down the dislike road, Jun. Because he still scares me with his looks, especially after I've seen old clips of his. Scary smile, Yukimura-style (PoT). I don't find him attrative either, sorry. >.<

This is hard. I like them all a lot, but especially Ryo (because he seems much like being the caring asshole that I used to be, and also Kansai-ben! <3 XD) and Shige, the latter preferred in combination with second ranked Koyama, because those two together = crack; third place would be Massu (because he's a bit scary sometimes), and Tegoshi (because he seems to be too fond of himself at times), and for the rounded finish, Yamaπ, whom I am criminally fond of already. (I excluded Uchi and Kusano for now because I haven't seen enough to really sort them in.)
While the Arashi ranking takes place in steps, NEWS are basically one happy bundle. I can only emphasize it, I like them all. Each guy has such strong and weak points that I have a hard time focussing on just one. Although I admit that Ryo hits my target category dead center; if I knew him, there'd be war. I used to hunt down guys like that in school. XD On some pictures he reminds me of a young Jackie Chan, same as Tackey. The comparison may sound horrible, but I really like that type, aesthetically, looking at the overall expression... is it the lips, the nose, the eyes, the jaw line? Am such a sucker for brilliant smiles.
Speaking of similarities, am I the only one who thought Pi was the JE equivalent to D-Boys' Shirota Yuu? [Edit:] Hah! Of course not. XD There's picture evidence. I must say I prefer Pi by far, because Shirota? Hairy~. *shudders*

I always said that I'm not lost/sucked in as long as I don't know who's face belongs to which name. Well, now I can at least I say that I still don't know all of their full names. *hangs head in defeat* Oh boy, what did I get myself into?
To commemorate The Evil Empress' deed, I now have a special folder for everything JE called "JE ~Johnny's Tentacles~".
You know you have lost when you have to start a whole folder called YamaPi and J-web (incl. various subfolders), because for some reason or the other, you suddenly have enough pictures to justify such measures.
In not-JE related news: my sister is leaving for Jakarta, Indonesia, tomorrow, for half a year of exchange studies in sociology.
