SO MUCH has happened between now and the last time I posted....
February whatever - February 8 (Fat Tuesday): Mardi Gras. It was awesome. I'm at a loss of words for how to describe it. Simply fun.
Pics are at the bottom.
February 14: Valentine's Day/Arizona's birthday. I've never been huge on the whole Valentine's Day thing (although I have always enjoyed celebrating Arizona's birthday...) Then I'm minding my own business in studio, and Ian comes over and asks me to show him how to do something. I walk over to his desk, and upon returning to my desk, I notice a large pinecone looking object. Upon further inspection, the giant pinecone turned out to be covered in chocolate.... and by pinecone, I mean it was a bunch (3? boxes worth) of strawberries dressed in choc. arranged to look like a tree. Mmmm strawberries.
February 23: What an awesome day! People started calling me "Lil' Ching" at this point in time because of my awesome drafting skills. (Ching is the guy who draws all of our reference books)
Later that day, Ian and I headed to the basketball game. When we got there, we were the ONLY Tulane students, and Fogelman was completely dead. We were standing around and someone walked up to us and asked if one of us wanted to do Bowling for Bruno's. (Bowling for Bruno's: someone is selected to chuck a basketball at some bowling pins in order to win a 50 person keg party at Bruno's). Ian took the person up on the offer. Later when he was getting ready to go out on the court and do B for B, they told him that he also won Hibernia Crawl for Cash (in which some poor soul is blindfolded, spun around, and given 30 seconds to crawl on the ground picking up as much money as possible). He could only do one, so he asked if they would let me do it.... I ended up winning $71 in 30 seconds - the largest total in Hibernia Crawl for Cash history. (I actually grabbed a $20 bill after time had expired, but they still counted it... hahahaha). (Update: still haven't received check... bastards)
Sometime in February: There is a lightning storm going on, and it reminds me of monsoon season at home. I really miss those. But I guess it's not like I would be experiencing them too much if I were still in Arizona anyway, because I'll be home during the summer when they actually happen.
Sometime in Feb: We had a pin-up in studio. I was not at all excited because Crosby was one of the reviewers. Long story short, he absolutely hated my project because the apartment in it looked too much like a "dream house." He then proceeded to tell me that this project is simple (which it wasn't) and that the apartment should be utilitarian (which I COMPLETELY disagreed with... the studio we designed is utilitarian, but the apartment should be livable). Later on you'll see how I avenged this poor pin-up.
February 20: We went out to dinner to celebrate Casey's birthday. The restaurant was absolutely horrible... service and foodwise. (The food was incredibly bland) Note to self: don't go to Orleans Cafe. But the rest of the night was enjoyable... Casey's mom even gave us party gifts in a bag labeled "Goodies." (My goodies, my goodies...)
Memorable baseball/basketball chants and/or things shouted that only Ian and I will probably understand:
"You see the way he's walkin there.... he takes it up the ass!"
"TULANE-REJECTS" / "SAFETY-SCHOOL"
"Hey ump, I hope you're getting paid overtime for this one" (Tulane beating Marist 24-2)
"Hey ump get off your knees, youre blowing a good game."
"Put in the white guy!"
More memorable baseball moments/games:
SWEEPING ASU in baseball.
SWEEPING Marist (who cares?), including a monstrous 24-2 victory.
Beating LSU 6-2 AT LSU.
Losing to Cal State Fullerton (defending College World Series Champs) 1-2 in the series
Now Tulane is no longer ranked #1, but has dropped to #3 :(
February: I lost my freakin bank card!! What a nuissance... I'm pretty sure the ATM ate it... that rat. So I had it cancelled as soon as I found it missing. Then a new card had to be ordered (which would take a week to be sent to my PARENTS, then they would send it to me). They told me I could get a temporary card, but when I tried to do that they told me I couldn't do it because I was in Louisiana, not Arizona where the account is based. So I was pretty much cash/fundless for roughly two weeks. And when I finally got the card, the pin didn't work. The moral of the story is: I hate having to borrow money from people.
February 25: Birthday! Some interesting phone calls/poems written for me, being surprised by Lorena, and the Flogging Molly concert helped make this birthday one to remember. Andrew wrote this poem for me:
"Oh my sweet flower Nicholas, Your eyes are like the fickle-est, sweet wench that could ever be, oh nicholas come sing to me"
Somehow Lorena managed to get a t-shirt and a card into my room without me knowing it. It appeared in the morning, and I had no idea where it came from. The shirt is super, funny (it might not have the same comical effect on y'all because it's kind of an inside joke, but some may still find it humorous). It says, "I wish I were a monkey... because then when I throw poop at people it would be legal."
So later on, Lorena surprised me in studio AGAIN, but this time with a large chocolate brownie cake thingjaijg ;pOIGNOIUOBAQH enrgiuab drool. Orgasmic.
The Flogging Molly concert was incredible. I went with Lorena, Ian, and Mikey. I remembered that they were awesome live (Van's Warped Tour), but this just reaffirmed it. Ian had a Guiness beer can and the drummer's drumsticks thrown at him. He gave me the beer, which I happily consumed (it was kinda warm). We went to Bourbon to grab a quick drink, then went we all went back to the dorm. The rest of the night is history.
February 26: This night was originally planned to be dinner at Cheesecake Bistro with me, Lorena, Ian, Brandon, Casey, and Ryan. So as we're driving by Cheesecake Bistro, Lorena says, "ok I'm going to blindfold you for your final surprise." I blurted out, "What?! In front of everyone?!?" Haha. So I'm blind and Ryan starts driving like a moron to throw me off. The whole time I was trying to guess where we were going. I had also tried contacting Brandon, but couldn't get a hold of him for some reason. "Ok, why am I blindfolded... and where the hell is Brandon?" We arrive at Location X, and Lorena/Ian walk me into the restaurant. Something was pouding on the glass, too.... probably people seeing me blindfolded and not being able to walk straight. After walking me into a table, Lorena sat me down and took off the blindfold. I was in Hooters! And a bunch of my friends were there. Hmm.... sounds like a surprise birthday one year before, too... How aweomse... two years in a row I am completely oblivious to the planning of a surprise party for me. But this time around, it was things like, "Ryan do you actually know how to get to Hooter's?" and my floormate saying, "so... you guys going to Hooters for dinner tonight?" The first comment I ignored, and the second I replied with "uhhh... we're going to Cheesecake Bistro." Neither of those things made me realize that PERHAPS there was a surprise coming. Oh yeah, and the fact that I KNEW a surprise was coming... because Lorena kept telling me. Note: I am the easiest person in the world to surprise.
March something: Beaux Arts Ball marked the end of Architect's week. Architect's week is pretty much an opportunity for people of different classes to interact and build a team project using a pre-designated site around campus. Our pre-assigned theme was light. Beaux Arts Ball started off pretty slow, but picked up at the end a little bit. I went as Zorro, and Lorena was my sexy Spanish (ok she's not Spanish, but close enough) lady thing.
I've been sick on and off (a lot more on lately) the entire semester. I finally went to the Student Health Center after sleepless nights, and not being able to even cough because my throat was so sore. It turns out I had a sinus infection. Then they tested me for mono (negative... duh... I had it two years ago). So they prescribed some yummy drugs which I am still taking.
I finally made it to Snug Harbor to see some Jazz in March. Astral Project was playing (quartet). They were amazing. I especially enjoyed the sax player. Then I bought a CD. The moral of this story is: wow are you seriously still reading this?? Kudos to you, I'll give you a love dollar. I really want to get out to see more jazz, because I haven't really done a whole lot of that since being here (crazy, huh?).
I have finished my portfolio from all the first semester projects in arch, and the first project this semester. It's pretty comprehensive of the work I have completed in my short career as an architecture student. Ask me and I'll show it to you.
Gunna have my car in New Orleans soon! That shall make life a little bit easier.
And last but not least: I shall be in Miami on Thursday!!! I'm so excited, but I'll wait to talk about it after it's done.
GOING HOME FOR THE WEEKEND! Hope y'all are ready to experience the Nick.
