I feel happy after an Ikea trip. There's just so much random shite, but, somehow, it's all absolutely necessary in my life. Of course I need new random candle holders and miniature cushions, damn it.
It's nice that the house is almost all fixed up now, and more homely rather than just being a cream-painted box - although my bedroom still is. However, I've bought all nice new bedding, and I've only just realised how addictive this can be. I'm blatantly going to turn into one of those people with 300 pillows scattered uselessly around my bedroom.
Work has been incredibly busy recently. It's all going very well, but we're at the point where we need more staff, more space and much, much more time. The company has pretty much trebled in size by turnover since I joined in February, thanks to some very big clients coming on board. In fact, another six-grander joined on Friday - a Swedish company which does the loyalty and store cards for pretty much every retailer on the high street.
Because of this, we're looking to take on another manager and, more excitingly, move offices. The place we're in at the moment is a fantastically cool place, but one bench desk for an entire company really isn't working. Trevor has managed to do a deal on a brilliant and huge place around the corner - another old mill conversion - which we're going to do up exactly how we want. It'll be nice to have some decent space for once. I shall make it the best office ever. Probably with Ikea cushions on the vintage Chesterfield sofas that Trevor has just bought, along with the antique mahogany boardroom table.
The car is still going fine apart from slurping more petrol than I slurp gin. I like my Fiesta but I do wish it wasn't so... budget. For example, the fact that it has the more powerful, excellent Zetec engine means that it costs the same to insure as the top-range Zetec model. So why should I pay the same amount to insure a lower model? Also the dashboard rattles like it isn't fastened down, the air conditioning still doesn't work, the clutch is literally disintegrating and the brakes are so bad that I can't believe it passed the MOT. Lovely to drive as it is, I want something a bit more... interesting. Like the old Jag XJ6 I saw advertised for £750.
Still, it hasn't stopped me from having a look around what's outside the square mile of Nottingham city centre that I've been used to living in for the past four years. There's some lovely countryside around here and it's nice to have a bit of an explore now and again. If nothing else, sometimes it's nice to just get outside of the same home-to-work corridor. Otherwise I think I might go a bit mad.
I've got some holiday dates to use up before the new year, so in a week or so I'm going to stay with Josh in Ironbridge for a couple of days, which ought to be nice as I haven't seen him since the enjoyable but ultimately ill-fated trip to Glasgow. I've also booked a week off in December so that I can get some Christmas shopping done, otherwise it's going to be absolute hell. I might go and do some of that in Leeds as it's always nice there in the run up to Christmas. Plus I haven't been to Harvey Nichols in a very long time, and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms.
And now it is time to get into my wonderfully mismatched bed.
